http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/20131011-carlosanton-1108955.aspx Academy appointment of former Malaga coach. City have added a continental flavour to their Academy setup with the appointment of ex-Malaga coach Carlos Anton. The 27-year-old has joined the club as senior coach for the Professional Development Phase â overseeing ages 17-21 â with a firm focus on the Under-18 group. Previously Anton was the youngest coach in Spainâs La Liga, where he was in charge of Malagaâs Academy setup and their under-19 team. He has also spent two years with Real Madrid as a scout for the European giantsâ Academy. Now Anton has moved to England where he is hoping to blend the best elements of this countryâs style with those of his homeland. âIâve always wanted to come to England,â he told bcfc.co.uk. âI like English football and the culture that surrounds it. To be a top coach, I need to learn and this is the best way. âYou can always learn but I think the best way is to get involved in different countries and different surroundings. âIf I can bring the best things in Spanish football to England and mix it with the good things happening here in this country then it could be a very good blend.â Spanish football is rightly held in high regard right now, with Spain having claimed the last two European Championship crowns, as well as being reigning World champions. âI travelled to England to look at Academy setups many years ago and I think things have changed lots from then to now,â he added. âThe big difference comes from the coaching. There are talented players all around the world; itâs how you coach that talent that matters. âI aim to bring the best elements of Spanish football with me but I donât want to take away all the good things happening here. âIâve been here for two months now. For one month I watched games and training sessions for all the Academy age groups, and for the past four weeks Iâve been working with the Under-18s. âItâs a good group, who have some very talented players. The aim is to push them through into the Under-21 group and then on to the first team as quickly as possible.â Anton can already speak English but aims to improve his language skills with classes. âI like Bristol the city; the weather is different but Iâm here to work, not for holidays,â he added. Brian Tinnion, director of youth recruitment, knows the Spaniard well from his seven years in the country working for Everton and his own soccer schools. He commented: âI watched Carlosâ Malaga team play when scouting for Everton, as well as some of his coaching sessions. âI felt we needed something different in the Academy, giving the coaches and players something else to learn. âAs he says, he wants to mix the best from here and the best from Spain, so I think everyone at the Academy will benefit. Itâs a two-way thing.â And Anton already has one claim to fame. Whilst at Malaga, he helped promote Fabrice Olinga Essono through to the first team at the tender age of 16. The Cameroonian international holds the record as La Ligaâs youngest ever goalscorer â and also appeared in the UEFA Champions League. âOnce weâve got Bristol and the surrounding areas tied up, with Carlosâ knowledge and contacts, it opens up the recruitment side for us,â added Tinnion. âWeâve done well to get Carlos on board. He had a new contract offer on the table at Malaga but this opportunity was one he really wanted to take and weâre delighted to have him with us.â Sounds like a bloody good appointment to I
Which is why it's annoying when some fans can't see what we are building here. It will take time but some want success straight away when it doesn't happen like that. Steve jobs is the best one to look up to, Working in his garage for years on something that is now one of the biggest and best things out there (Apple). Carlos Anton sounds like a really good addition and something the club should be praised for. Exciting to see that he scouted for Real Madrid's academy. One of the biggest clubs in the world and they had him on their books. Well done to all at the club
One of the 5 pillars is about youth development - we can't just go out and buy people anymore - our youth system needs to provide players. This does not happen overnight. Appointments like this are steps in the right direction.
I can see what City are trying to build. But without a successful first team, the rest is just pie in the sky. It is the old conundrum - which comes first, the chicken or the egg? In City's case it must be some success for the first team otherwise all the rest of the club will fall!
Skill and technique allied to desire to improve. Spanish kids do not get that good by accident. Neither do the Germans and Dutch. For decades this country has adopted a utterly myopic attitude to development. Our kids are not inferior. They need guidance. We are improving at City, we are improving nationally, but the standard even prior to nine [academy age] is inferior to Europe. That is because of focus on the short term.
McInnes was the instrumental one in getting the Academy up and running, I was told by my aunts brother in laws goldfish cousin. That he got to involved in trying to get this set up and running properly that he took his mind off the first team to much.
This is exactly what I've been screaming for for the past 5 years. Alleluia - someone at Bristol City is finally using their grey matter
"It was the cock, everyone know the cock comes first" Apparently it would be better if you could at least get yours 'in' first.. just passing on info, is all...
Not going in there again, judging on the things that come out. I'm sure the first words they said was "Can I have"
Thank you for that massive vote of confidence RP At least I admit I can be wrong But I am usually not
