Listening to the Man City v Man U game yesterday, and the commentator talked about abuse coming from fans towards players, and how it was just part and parcel of the game.

Sadly, he's right. Though it disappointed me that he didn't condemn it. There's a culture of fans shouting whatever abuse they want towards players and teams and it being perfectly alright. Gives football and its fans a bad name. And it won't change while people are afraid to condemn it.

  2. My first experience of this was back in the late 70s at Highbury. Some nitwit not far from where we were was conducting a verbal tirade against Graham Rix. Sadly abuse from fans has probably gotten worse. You're right Murray. I too don't see it as being part and parcel of the game. It's unacceptable and can only be stamped out if officials and fans band together and condemn it.
