Appalling, I know the lads dad very well and it's appalling that an organisation the size of the mirror has done this on twitter, should be very very ashamed.

More attention to the reality of gos appeal , do as i do direct debit every month, if you have the courage give the hospital a visit ,it will touch your heart as it did mine ,makes everything else so less important .

There's already enough ****e on Twitter without so-called journalists being paid to shovel a few more lumps on.

Had the lad been in the best of health, it's not even a good ****ing joke.

Despicable behaviour from a newspaper. Once again.

Never read the Mirror for many a year. Gutter press.

There was a time they were the only Labour paper mind.

Garth in the comic strip used to be good.

    Typically shocking cheap journalism.
Been doorstepped by the bar stewards myself when my daughter died nearly 10 years ago.
Hope these insensitive, ignorant to££ers never have to go through the same with their kids.
Good luck to the lad and his family.

Did no one stop to think for a second why he'd wear a backpack onto the pitch ....... do they think he'd trecked across the ****ing Yorkshire Dales to get there <doh>

As if a kid carrying a favourite toy, comfort blanket or vital medical supplies is 'ruining football' in any case.

Do they blast the players for bringing their kids onto the pitch at the last game of the season? Which they should in my opinion.

Makes my flesh creep mate .......... the supporters have been there all season, through thick & thin, and the players are saying 'this is what really matters to me'.

At least pretend it's the club and the supporters ffs, is that too much to ask? I don't want to see your children thanks all the same.

Aren't you the people who bleat on about press intrusion into your family life <doh>

Comfort blanket is what came to my mind. If that was the case it wouldn't be something to ****ing laugh at. Disgrace.

That's what passed through my mind, I just thought 'brave kid' and carried on watching the build up ........ thinking back I did notice another slightly older kid guiding him a bit but just thought that was canny.

As an grown up I'll happily take the piss out of any adult, and take the flak, but wouldn't dream of it with kids.

this just about sums the mirror up......

"But I'm sorry I can't let this one lay - a newspaper with as many followers and readers as the mirror has should ensure they employ journalists who do their research first before they comment on individual situations."

they'd should probably sack almost every journo who works for them

We should make this a huge issue by bombarding their website and emails with complaints and demand a huge cash contribution to the lads medical requirements. Humiliate the paper into submission and name the tweeter so we can all pass our comments.

As for the other debate about 'laps of honour' by players and their families I am at a loss. Surely the best way the players can thank the fans for their loyal following is not to totally **** up the season and struggle in a relegation battle with pathetic lame dick performances every other game and open their fans to ridicule for 9 months. If I see any current player at the end of this season (even if we survive) trying to celebrate or think he has done well I'll jump on the pitch and kick the bastard up the arse for making my so season miserable whilst picking up their £30k+ a week.

The only lap of honour any team should do is with a Cup or league champions trophy won that season or the previous one. Anything else is a embarrassment.

When did this lap of honour start? I remember us doing one in '76 when we won the old div 2. No justification for doing one when you finish 17th.
