I listened to Real Radio phone in last night with some amusement. 2 Rangers fans both called to complain because Neil Lennon had won "manager of the year". The gist of their argument was that Stuart McCall should have won because - on a non existent budget - he had got Motherwell a Champions League spot. Lennon deserved no praise for winning the SPL whatsoever, he only won the title because Rangers had been handicapped by a 10 point deduction (they never said the title was "tainted" but that in effect was what they were saying), it was therefore "A Mickey Mouse competition". Can anyone remind me again just exactly why Motherwell qualified for the Champions League?
If I were you Russ, I'd not bother listening to these phone-ins as they are obviously not good for your mental health. Just a wee bit of advice from one man to the next
Maybe you should have a word in Nev's "shell like", he's taken to listening to repeats of Phone In shows just so he can listen to my voice.
It depends how you want to look at it. Celtic had no realistic competition for the SPL title after Rangers were removed from the equation. Motherwell beat a clutch of clubs of a similar level to win the CL spot vacated by Rangers.
Or alternatively Motherwell still only came third, some distance behind Rangers despite having a 10 point advantage. Exceptional stuff.
Stuart McCall is a wee ginger ned that doesn't even wear a suit in the dugout Puts unfair pressure on refs etc. If he gets MOTY, I'll be phoning in to claim that he's "bringing the game into disrepute"
But they're not voting for the team of the year, they're voting for the manager of the year. Which man did best with the resources at his disposal?
Neil Lennon deserved to be made manager of the year because not only had he created the squad with very little resources in only two seasons, he also had to deal with more hinderances than the remainder of the managers put together. Neil Lennon had more points deducted by referees and officials than Ally had. Ally's points were for Rangers continuously breaking the rules to gain advantages, Lennon''s were deducted because he is a R.C. from the wee six who manages Celtic. No other manager was under the same scrutiny by the SFA Authorities, in that he was about the only manager censured by SFA even though other managers made more damaging about referees.
Super, if Lennon had behaved like Mccoist has this season , after The Aluko hearing remember his unpunished comments , and then basically asking the Huns to riot after the sfa handed down their punishment for all their cheating . Lennon would be looking at half a season ban , yet Mccoist remains unpunished .
The point Tarq was making is that the steelmen beat the other teams at a similar level to get the third spot.
