'About time' - Fans celebrate as Steve Cotterill is finally acknowledged by Bristol City The double-winning manager seemed to have been pushed to the sidelines amid memories of the 2014/15 season please log in to view this image Bristol City manager Steve Cotterill salutes fans at Ashton Gate https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/about-time-fans-celebrate-steve-4104207 What a time, what an achievment, great guy, great times, thanks Cotts, how times have changed, you got us to the higher level and we thankyou for Bristol City's first league title for 60 years.
When asked by Bristol Live to comment on Steve Cotterell, 'the club declined to comment'. The City board are puppets who are scared witless of upsetting the Lansdown's. Since the night Junior declined to shake Cott's hand there's been a concerted effort by Fake News Ashton Gate to erase Cott's magnificent achievement. With little money, playing with 1 side of the ground missing he achieved amazing progress in such a short time. The Politburo inside AG are 'playing' City fans. The board think after 4 seasons of Junior spending zillions that fans will accept him. They've got no chance.
I forgot about that handshake. Not sure he did blank him having just watched it back again. Felt for Cotts there though.
that's 1 million more times than the gov is spending on the corona virus … where did the Lansdowns ...SUDDENLY GET THAT MUCH ……
Uncle Steve has never been good about this type of thing. Fans lobbied the club and SL for years to honour Gerry Gow.
The best player to wear a city shirt in my 57 years on the planet. He was everything you wanted in a player.
Boring boring same old same old.....it's was great for one season in a lower league, failed in a higher league.....we move on!!
Perhaps when this coronavirus thing is over we should sack LJ, reemploy Cotts, so he could take us back to League 1 and repeat that fantastic season the year after!
Be careful, because some on here would think that would be a good idea Although I believe that season was a one off and Cotts wouldn't be able to repeat it..
I am sorry to have to say that is a sad reply and shows an ignorance of our history. Only 4 managers have taken us out of that 'lower league' as champions since our inception 125 years ago. And during those 125 years only 4 others have taken us out of that 'lower league' as runners up. I would say that is a select band of managers. I would also like to point out that whatever SC is alleged/rumoured to have done it would have to incredibly bad to be worse than what the guy voted at number one in this century's top 10 is alleged/rumoured to have done. I will repeat for clarity the working relationship between SL and SC had irretrievably broken down and he was rightly sacked and yes we move on, what is actually boring is adoration for the host of failures and the won sweet FA's we have had before and since.
Well that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I believe it was a great season but just a one off.A season where all the players we had gelled well...Being competitive in the championship with the big clubs around us TO ME is more of achievement ..
It's not opinion it's fact. And one of those facts is that we are a club of only 4 'one offs' in 125 years so that makes it special. Being competitive in the championship is a luxury afforded to LJ because of the efforts of SC and his team and also being backed financially by the owner unlike SC for whatever reason. I might change my opinion when LJ actually wins something as a manager.
we made the best of what was on the table at that time …. A band of managers that had an easier task SC DID VERY WELL but it was a weak division and he did it as has been said previously with an in inherited squad which he "topped up"
The first statement is an opinion, like I could say if it wasn't for this virus LJ would have taken us up, it's not based on any fact whatsoever. My main objection is the attempt to airbrush SC's achievement out of our history, it's just plain wrong on every level. When he took over from the useless old SOD, we were 2nd from bottom of that 'lower league' and one City fan told me he was ashamed of the club sacking SOD because he had seen the 'green shoots' of progression, incredible what rose tinted specs can do.
The 1st division is always a weak division, the gas were in a play off position earlier this season and many notable failures such as the much loved (for some reason) Danny Wilson could not get us out of that 'weak division' in my lifetime only 5 managers have achieved that 2 as champions and 3 as runners up and i'm 66 years old. 30 years we have spent in that 'weak division', a weak division than when we won it contained PNE a team haven't beaten in 13 attempts and Sheff Utd.
It's a much harder job winning something at our current level Jiffie. That means winning the Championship, the FA or the League Cup. The competition is much tougher. With the JPT we were one of the 'big' clubs in the competition. We were also a big club in League 1. Now I'm not trying to diminish Cotts's double - it was indeed fantastic. What I'm trying to say is that sustaining mid table championship status is arguably just as tough as winning the JPT and League 1. We see time and time again how newly promoted teams struggle in this league and we have cemented our place here. Again, I'm not belittling Sc - neither am I bigging LJ up - just saying it's difficult to compare them because the respective challenges were/are so different.
I've not airbrushed Cotts achievement, I've always said he did well for us...But it was a one off from him and most believe he would have taken us back down...He's not proved himself anywhere else for me to think he's a great manager ....LJ's not proved himself in winning anything, but has proved himself being competitive in the championship more than any manager we've had since Alan Dicks...............................FACT
