I had an email from a Swan complaining about Aber sending a pm. I will not divulge the name or content but it appears brb (supermod) saw a threat posted on the wum board and acted.
I have recently been asked to lift a ban on PGF but now this has happened I am not inclined to do so. I have requested the swans refrain from using racist stereotyping in their threads and this has only increased the use of the phrase "Ting Tong" Aber, in his way, also requested this stop which led to the temp ban.
It seems even though we are visibly trying to stamp out any terms with racist conotations the Swans do not want to address it on their side. That speaks volumes about the select few over there than it does us.
Guys, please respect that we do not want racist terms to be used here to describe our local rivals (including the racist bigots amongst them) or any other fans and rise above it.
We know who the clowns are and I expect us to respond to them in kind but use words with 2 syllables or less as they are easily confused.

agree with that taff, they have two top mods in chico and musty, shame they have probably had enough of their childish crap, i have thought of posting there but its not worth my time, they are unable to debate these days, a shame, the reason i'm on this site is because you can debate with fans of different clubs......<whistle>

JH is the only one on our board using the terms that arent allowed, and i think you should have a word with him if you havent already......<ok>

JH is fully aware of the terms and he's toned it down. There are many adjectives that can adequatley describe some of the swans over their without resorting to known racist terms. I really believe the hypocrisy of some over there would see them report someone for racist comments on our site.

A site ban is a bit extreme. Didn't see what was said but Jesus wept people just need to man up. You have posters who use the terms pikie, gypos as a negative stereotype, we have posters who use the phrase ting tong. So what? Are people so sensitive that this genuinely offends them? Or are you just looking to point score by highlighting what people have said. They are by no means the most insulting or racist terms are they.
And before you say it, I am not condoning what is said by any means, just grow a pair.

Also Taff give it a rest, your talking like everyone on our board is racist when you know absolutely full well that is not the case.

    While your asking:

How do you know a site ban was extreme, as you state you did not see what was said, neither would you be likely too as the complaint was about usage within the messaging system.

Next up the term pikie is considered highly offensive by some. Not by me, I get called it all the time as a Gills fan. However, it nearly got me in **** loads of trouble once. So yes Pikie or Pikey as I would word it is...http://metro.co.uk/2007/12/13/pikey-is-now-a-race-hate-word-583752/

Whether mods choose within their own communities to ban certain language on behalf of their board membership or follow a process of complaint is a matter for them.

Swan-m, umm do the words "some or a select few" enter your vocabulary? I think there are a lot of great posters on the Swans board but it is dragged down by the minority. So no I won't give it a rest.

I stand by my request that we refrain from using words like gypo and pikie when adressing any fan not just the overly sensitive few out west.

Bloody hell Girls, i for one cannot see any racism at all, i spent 25 years in the armed forces and could have taken offence at any number of names that i got called in my time. Pikey, Gypo, Ting Tong (whatever the hell that is) sorry but cant for the life of me think why people are getting a hard on over this.

If these words are going to cause problems could we just not filter them out with *'s in the interest that it keeps not606 out of the limelight it doesn't want nor need?

As far as I can recall, there's only one poster over here that uses those (offensive - really? <doh>) words as part of his regular vocabulary. Down there, they are loads of them that get positively orgasmic with each other when the "ting tong" words are posted and scramble to join in the jolly jibes.

Must admit I don't like that stuff myself, but Taff, this "racism" thing has all got out of hand. I accept you're reacting to it in mod mode as part of your remit, but apart from one poster, this forum is pretty mild by comparison.

Many of the Swansea posters have made it quite clear they want nothing to do with Cardiff posters on their forum, but still come across here to give it large and whinge.

In the well worn words of one of your earlier thread - you couldn't make it up.

Let them say what they want - I doubt the legal issue previously raised about it on this forum has any mileage. You simply can't compare it with social networks like Twitter and Facebook.

Have to say I don't like Aber being banned when you see some of the stuff spouted on the jacks' board.

Aber could well suggest we all go and **** ourselves and I wouldn't blame him. Controversial and left wing - yes - but a valuable contributor to this board in many ways.

All, I have had my say on the racism issues here and I think we are all adult enough not to get sucked into a slanging match using real or perceived racist comments.
I am not happy about anyone being banned especially when notified to the super-mod by the jacks. However, it appears Aber was banned for a public threat and not an email he sent to one of the Swans mods. So it maybe, as I have suspected, private messages are exactly that and mods should not act on them. Deal with it in the private arena seems to be the order of the day.
