Abel Hernández is in the provisional squad for the 2015 Copa América, being held in Chile 11th June to 4th July.
100% average player. The day we signed him, on here, I was saying how ridiculously overpriced he was. Zamparini was dancing all the way to the bank that day.
I cannot see us getting 50% of the fee we paid if we sell him.....players are only really as valuable as their previous season's form makes them
He's worth whatever anyone will pay for him. He wasnt "worth" £10m after an average season in Serie B but someone paid it.
I'm not sure if the timing of the squad is beneficial to us or not. Plus point - inclusion should give Hernandez a confidence boost Negative point - he won't want to miss the Copa America and may wish to avoid injury.
His first season hasn't gone that well, but he's showed touches of class that I think show signs he might make a good Premier League player. Or a very good Championship player. Jordan Rhodes started off with a terrible record and he now scores for fun. Sometimes players need to settle and unfortunately Abel is one of them.
In comparison, I heard some folks on talksport discussing Cuadrado and what Mourinho had to say about him. I've only watched Chelsea aginst us and Leicester since he signed so not seen him play, they were saying he looks a little lost in this league at the minute but Jose had supposedly said something along the lines of he could take awhile to adapt, it's a completely different game in Italy and players rarely hit the ground running and he's one for the future. Doesn't make him a bad signing or a bad player, I suspect Hernandez will be similar, he's obviously a very good player but it's just not happened for him yet. Whether he'll still be here for us to find out if he ever will, god only knows but I think writing him off already is a bit premature. Similarly, look at Harry Kane, been about a little bit and every man and his dog thought he was ****. Despite that the Tottenham setup are said to have kept every faith in him and look at him now.
He got 1 in their first 5 and 2 in their first 8 league games this season. Hardly consistent, Hernandez made a better start.
Two in their first five, six in their first ten and 17 in 33 in total this season, looks fairly consistent to me.
The Irish lads have also been called up... Philip Buckingham @PJBuckingham Paul McShane, Robbie Brady, Stephen Quinn and David Meyler all set for a short summer. Named in @FAIreland squad for summer internationals
