I'm not sure if this warrants a thread or not, but I'm sure some people will be interested that Mehdi Abeid looks to have chosen Algeria over France.

    Wikipedia says:

Plus he just wrote on facebook how he's leaving for Algeria on Tuesday, and some people are writing in French congratulations on something to do with the Olympics, so I think he's going to be in the Algerian olympic squad.

I don't know if the fact that he's playing in the U-23s means that he can still switch to the French national team? I think you still can with U-21s...

Oh, I'm quite surprised he chose Algeria but I suppose it makes sense, he'll have a lot more competition in the French team. I'd rather he picked France though, bloody ACN will have us crippled.

In fairness playing the ACN in midsummer makes more sense than a World Cup in Qatar. They can use it as a test event and see how many players melt...

I guess its the better choice for him if he wants international football... The competition for midfield in the French squad is HUGE, especially with young players.

Hope it still pushes him to improve though... Him and Boudebouz in midfield isnt too bad!

If he plays for Algeria in the U23's, he will not be able to play for France. I think it is a good decision for him personally in terms of game time in the near future, but he could regret it if he fulfills his potential because he could make it in the France team.
