One of the biggest sagas of this off-season has taken a dramatic turn today. New England TE Aaron Hernandez, subject of an investigation into the murder of semi-pro footballer Odin Lloyd near his home in Massachusetts, has been taken into custody.

There have been a number of revalations in this case since it first made the news. It has emerged the victim was previously in a relationship with Hernandez's sister, and when police requested his mobile and surveillance camera footage, they were handed in destroyed.

This case just gets more and more dramatic every day...

Well destroying the phones and camera footage is obstruction of justice:

Current through Pub. L. 113-13. (See Public Laws for the current Congress.)
Whoever knowingly alters, destroys, mutilates, conceals, covers up, falsifies, or makes a false entry in any record, document, or tangible object with the intent to impede, obstruct, or influence the investigation or proper administration of any matter within the jurisdiction of any department or agency of the United States or any case filed under title 11, or in relation to or contemplation of any such matter or case, shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 20 years, or both.

So he's going to jail if the Judge rules he destroyed evidence, then you got the murder case.
I've got the eerie feeling we are not going to see Hernandez anytime soon...

Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez now is being investigated by the Boston Police Department in connection to a 2012 double homicide, Bristol County Sheriff Tom Hodgson confirmed to NFL Network on Friday.

"There's a new development, which I don't know if you've heard from these reports, that (Hernandez is) being looked at now in relation to an investigation that involves a double homicide -- a drive-by shooting -- that happened in Boston in 2012," Hodgson said during a Friday telephone interview on "NFL AM."

When asked to clarify his statement, Hodgson said, "That is an investigation that the District Attorney's office and Boston Police are looking at (Hernandez) as being somehow connected."

This latest development follows Thursday's news that Hernandez was denied bail in relation to the first-degree murder charge he faces in the death of 27-year-old semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.

The Boston Police Department on Thursday became the third police agency to visit Hernandez's home in the last week and a half.

Boston and North Attleboro police, along with a collection of plainclothes detectives, arrived at the house Thursday night. Authorities entered the residence while Hernandez remained in jail.

When asked by NFL Media on Friday if the most recent search of Hernandez's residence was in connection to its investigation of the 2012 double homicide, a spokesperson for the Boston Police Department said they do not comment on ongoing investigations.

Has he been charged with obstruction of justice yet? Can't find anything on it.

The fact that NE released him before he was officially charged says a lot.

Aaron Hernandez apartment search yields ammo

The Massachusetts State Police searched Aaron Hernandez's Franklin, Mass., apartment on June 26 and found numerous boxes of firearm ammunition and a hooded white sweatshirt possibly worn by Hernandez on the night of Odin Lloyd's death, according to documents obtained by NFL.com and NFL Network from the Wrentham District Court. The former New England Patriot has been charged with first-degree murder in Lloyd's slaying.

The documents indicate that authorities recovered videotape from multiple security cameras that show Hernandez and two associates, Ernest "Bo Fish" Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, picking up Lloyd at his home on June 17. Tapes then indicate that the group drove to the industrial park location where Lloyd's body was discovered later that day.

"This sweatshirt is consistent in color and type with the sweatshirt that Hernandez is observed to be wearing on surveillance cameras the night of the homicide," the State Police wrote in an affidavit.

The search of Hernandez's home also yielded five boxes of .45-caliber ammunition. This was the caliber used to kill Lloyd.

In other Hernandez news Wednesday, the Gainesville (Fla.) Police Department released a 2007 incident report from a double shooting in which many University of Florida players were questioned, including Hernandez. The report was not released intentionally.

"It has come to our attention that the incident report for GPD Case 02-07-20053 was released inadvertently," the police said in a statement. "This information was just discovered after our most recent press release was issued.

"A public records request was made by ESPN and fulfilled in error by a clerk. Since the report was already made a public record pursuant to a request by ESPN, it is now available for download on GPD's website."

In a previous statement, the Gainesville Police Department directly denied a report that it has been contacted by authorities in Massachusetts about the incident.

The 2007 incident took place when Hernandez was a 17-year-old freshman at the University of Florida. Two men were wounded in the incident, including one who was shot in the back of the head. The police report, which redacts Hernandez's name, indicates that the two victims in the case were shot after leaving a nightclub.

An eyewitness in the back seat of the car, Randall Cason, said that there were two shooters including a "Hawaiian" or "Hispanic" with a muscular build.

"It should be noted that this incident report is not complete," the Gainesville Police Department said in a statement. "There are still detective supplements outstanding because it is classified as an open criminal investigation. While this report is now publicly available, the Gainesville Police Department will not offer any further comment due to the ongoing criminal investigation."

The one positive for him in this situation is he most likely wont get bummed in prison because of his size.
