A year on..

from the sad passing of the great man.

Lets hope the team and fans can put on a show he would be proud of tomorrow.

 

For those who are about my age, he was the first WFC manager we knew of, and thanks to his drive to make the club a community club, we were able to meet him regularly, especially if we were Junior Hornets. It was as much for his achievements off the pitch with the club as well as those on it that he will be remembered.

 

Finished reading his book this morning. Obviously I am biased but it's one of the warmest, humble and genuinely nice life stories I have ever read.

Best line "Wolves sacked me but I thought I would have done well had I stayed there. I'm not the sort of person to say it but it turns out I got to the Premier League again before they did"

Agreed, great read. I was reading it until 3.30am one morning as I couldn't put it down. It brought back some great memories from the foggy past.

 

The only downside is my daughter paid up to £20 for it when it will probably be available for a quarter of that price in a few months.

 

Graham who, to man we all thought we knew. Always had time for a word or three because he enjoyed engaging with people. Other clubs have had their heros, but not many will have been actually loved in the way he was. I feel sure that tomorrow he will be celebrated with a joy that he spent so many years with us, but a sadness that his smile will no longer be seen in the Vic.

 

I was lucky enough to have met Graham a few times, notably whilst on the WFC staff coach on the Wembley cup final day and a recent long chat at the last Shendish awards evening. I must echo the above statement that he gave the impression that he was genuinely interested in your opinion. I'm sure to do his jobs so effectively he must have been fairly ruthless when necessary but always with total respect for the other person. There are so many references of his concern for the welfare of his previous players. He was one in a million.

I have my scarf ready for tomorrow.

Just started the book. Also, just realised I don’t own a WFC scarf anymore...thinking cap on or possibly a visit to the shop before the game.
