... The Championship table looked like this:

    Pl W D L F A GD Points
    1) West Ham 29 17 5 7 46 30 16 56
    2) Southampton 29 15 7 7 51 31 20 52
    3) Cardiff 29 13 11 5 46 33 13 50
    4) Blackpool 29 13 9 7 48 36 12 48
    5) Birmingham 28 13 8 7 46 27 19 47
    6) Middlesbrough 29 12 11 6 33 30 3 47
    7) Hull 28 14 4 10 28 25 3 46
    8) Reading 28 13 6 9 35 27 8 45
    9) Leeds 29 13 6 10 47 42 5 45
    10) Brighton 29 13 6 10 32 30 2 45
    11) Burnley 29 13 5 11 42 34 8 44
    12) Derby 28 12 5 11 33 36 -3 41
    13) Leicester 29 10 9 10 38 33 5 39

    Interesting viewing.

Obviously a massive improvement for us from last season. We have only lost 2 less games than we had at this stage last season, but we have drawn less, and thus won 6 more games.

Reading were still in 8th at this point, still 11 points off top, albeit with a game in hand.

Who would have called Reading to win it this time last year?

EDIT: Ooh the table didn't come out the way I had hoped, here is the link...

That just goes to show that Cardiff are indeed walking away with the title and will take some stopping now. Have the top five every had some many points at this point in the season before?

    1 Cardiff City 29 20 3 6 51 30 12 1 1 25 8 8 2 5 26 22 +21 63
    2 Leicester City 29 16 5 8 51 24 11 2 2 35 12 5 3 6 16 12 +27 53
    3 Hull City 29 16 5 8 40 31 8 2 4 21 14 8 3 4 19 17 +9 53
    4 Watford 30 16 4 10 58 40 8 2 5 26 16 8 2 5 32 24 +18 52
    5 Crystal Palace 30 14 9 7 52 37 9 5 1 35 17 5 4 6 17 20 +15 51

It does? Reading were 11 points behind West Ham there but finished above them. Leicester and Hull are only 10 points behind Cardiff.

I think Reading were a surprise to most people last year but it just goes to show that anything can happen in football.

In 06/07 Sunderland had 47 points after 30 games & were 9th, Derby were top with 59 but Sunderland were promoted as champions.

Have the top five every had some many points at this point in the season before?

Reading had more points in 05/06
    1 Reading 29 +46 72
    2 Sheffield United 29 +27 63
    3 Leeds United 28 +14 51
    4 Watford 29 +12 49
    5 Crystal Palace 27 +15 47
