A week of frenzy or of calm Which one will it be, With only five days left to palm Off players, we shall see, Not thinking just at Carrow Road Where much has taken place, For others who´ll on or offload Time´s running out apace, Some have spent then spent some more On one or two or three, While others like ourselves, though poor Have had a shopping spree, Seven so far coming in While much the same have gone, Ought to mean here at the Inn That work is nearly done, Maybe just one more up front Would keep the pressure hot, And help to keep us in the hunt When goals have to be got, But here in this final week When desperation calls, Prices will just get a tweek And deals may hit the wall, So in that respect, I´d say We should be fairly pleased, Hughton´s done well in the fray With those that he has seized, As a postscript I have heard That all may not be well, At Villa, where they say the word Is that our old PL, Would like a talk with Lerner there To free up some more funds, But so far the cupboard seems bare Or so the story runs, So there will be some, no doubt Where frenzy´s to the fore, But I sense calm all round about The Carrow Road main door. Hi RBF, we must be almost done, unless there's more in the pot than we were led to believe! I think we have a tidy team that will blend and all pull in the same direction! IHWT OTBC
Dave, I would guess that Tettey spells the end of the Biglia saga, and word seems to be, that a striker is on the radar, but who, is anybody´s guess. Certainly the last few incomings do bear the clear stamp of Ewan Chester´s European connections, an interesting development from the Lambert days, especially with the inflated prices of English players these days.
Yes, it seems likely that a striker coming in will be the last piece of business (or are we still after a keeper?) though I do wonder if we might let one or two more go.
yes, i do believe that two or three will be leaving, probably on loan, especially one of the goalies who need to be playing to improve. also expect a striker to arrive, but, apart from the earlier rumours, no clue as to who it will be. probably someone off the radar and total surprise.
Hi RBF bor, I think there is a big difference in outlook between PL and CH. Lambert looked to find nuggets in the lower leagues whereas CH is clearly looking for journeymen who know the Premier League. PL knew he couldn't go on producing rabbits out of a hat so decided it was time to move on. Could have chosen a better berth, Villa fans are notorious for believing they still are a "big" club even though they have done nothing of late to justify that claim. Big question is will PL get the financial backing from the owner. Incoming . . . good question. CH has set to rectify our weakness last season, defence; has taken priority. I think we could give our near neighbours a helping hand, we have several player surplus who could give them a boost to make the Premier. Problem is, like Villa, their owner doesn't want to pay for progress, a la Bates of Leeds.
Evening NORKIE, I know it´s no concern of ours, but the natives do seem to be getting a bit itchy over at Villa, they certainly haven´t looked up to much on the few highlights I´ve seen of them so far, that one could really test Lambert´s pedigree.
Just been reading some of CH's comments on the 'EDP website' and though not totally convinced we need another striker, if CH can unearth some of the gems he did during his tenure at SJP (or the 'Sports Direct Stadium' or whatever it's called), then I'm definitely in favour of another addition to the side. Only a few days to go and can't see more than 1 or 2 additions to the side with perhaps 2 or 3 leaving. My choices to leave would be C Martin, Lappin and Ward, with one or two others maybe going out on loan.
JR - Have just read that Blackburn have taken a Polish keeper on trial for a few days, which may or may not mean anything as regards our apparent interest in Mr. Bunn, would certainly give Rudd and/or Steer the chance to go out and get valuable match practice this year, and give Ruddy some competition, which, let´s face it, he hasn´t really got now.
I know some people are questioning this, but makes sense to me Super, will give Ruddy a bit more serious competition and mean that Rudd and possibly Steer can get out on loan. I know we use up one more squad place, but I don´t think we´re finished offloading yet.
at first i couldn't understand it but the more i thought about it, the more obvious it was that a keeper would be a good signing. ruddy, as it stands, realistically has absolutely NO competition for his place in the team. no matter how good we think rudd and certainly steer, they are not good enough to be challenging YET. i feel its quite a lot to be spending on someone who will likely be a reserve but he's very highly rated by blackburn fans who seem to believe he is the better keeper than former england keeper robinson and can't understand why he isn't their number one. plus, it gives BOTH young guns (no pun intended) the chance to progress by playing first team football elsewhere.
