Good ole Clegg, so much to answer for. Well, as expected the FFP preparation has been nothing but a handicap. An agreed rule change now means that Championship clubs will be able to make a loss of £39m over three years, a huge increase from the £8m per season present limit when you consider that for a promotion push the majority of that money would likely be spent in just a couple of transfer windows, provided the money is accounted for properly and can be backed up by, say, an owner like Marcus Evans.
What a ****in' crock of ****. Just knew this would happen after so many clubs couldn't or wouldn't meet the demands. Total load of bollocks.
We will just move on and adjust to the new rules......no great shakes....let the accountants deal with the accounts.
The positives are that we got our house in order, got rid of overpaid, under performing players and look where we are now. I'm happy with our club in it's current state but it is still annoying to see rules changed about like that because others can't or won't adhere to them.
To be honest we couldn't go on as we were with all the crazy money we were spending! Prudence is the name of the game and Mick is proving once again that you can be highly competitive without spending a fortune on players and agents fees! I'm actually very pleased with the way things are turning out under this new era of austerity and at last it feels like we have a well run club to support again! Yes there may need to be some money spent in January to bolster the squad for our promotion push but I'm pleased that we aren't a bonkers basket case anymore!
You can argue that Warky but if we hadn't been quite so tight we'd have had Charlie Austin at the club three years ago and look at him now!
He was always going to end up with his mate Eddy at Burnley! The money that was wasted in the first few years of Evans reign was not sustainable and the brakes have been put on. Seems fair enough to me as we have a competitive team put together for next to nothing! Gone are the days of spending silly money on average players and then allowing them to leave for nothing! That's no way to run a business.
You're right JWM, nothing was sustainable about our club before and as you say, it couldn't go on unchecked.
They haven't actually scrapped FFP yet.. They've already decided it's replacement policy but FFP (and it's sanctions) are still in place for the 2013/14 season. The new policy is a bit of a kop out but there could/should still be sanctions come January given the current FFP policy. At least we are in a healthy position to be able to give ourselves some breathing room in the new system
And imo it's much more of an achievement to do things through coaching and shrewd scouting/recruitment than to just throw money at any problem that arises.....I for one prefer the way we are going about things, I think if we are still in a good position in January we could (if Mick thinks it could help) spend a little money.
Well said Weighty although most love a big buy player too if they are truly talented and people love to watch them, or a freebie who's truly talented, that works too.
Will be very interesting to see if QPR pay their £40m fine, which is "allegedly" due to them this year. If they get away with it without being thrown out (or moved down divisions) then the FA/Football League/Premiership is a complete joke and a farce where clubs can do pretty much what they want. I've no problem with the FFP at all, as long as it's across the board and there is no favouritism involved, and that clubs/owners are to be accountable for their actions.
Stretchy - being held down or relegated has never been on the agenda, the thing has always been a farce apart from at the very top when Champions' League income can be at stake. That's why it has always annoyed me that we hamstrung ourselves when all around us were splashing out. I take the point that at this moment, we're doing well, but we are still in the Championship. Our form is credit entirely to MM and TC, not the way the club has been run. Wasn't all that long ago we were an absolute laughing stock.
What on earth does it matter what the accounts department are up to...I support the footballing side of the club....if we spend 20 million or tuppence ha'penny on new signings I don't care as long as they are good hard working honest players. As for sticking within ffp rules I applaud the club for not trying to find loop holes and cheat just because other club may have......personally I'd rather finish mid table with integrity than cheat/buy our way to promotion....but that's just me.
