Morning all, Just woken up in Liverpool, and looking forward to wandering down in my Saints shirt for the paper. Lunch time in the pub is going to be good too. It's a bit weird this seeing the team occasionally. It's the difference between having kids and seeing grandchildren. With the latter you notice developments more readily. So yesterday was grandad's visit to see how we've progressed since I last saw the team at Wigan. Obviously I was well impressed, but I decided to take a particular interest in our two big signings. I have always felt that Jay Rodriguez was a couple of goals away from being a star. Watching him yesterday I thought he was awesome. He was a constant threat, and his movement was excellent. He covers well and there were times I lost him as he seemed to be popping up all over the pitch. I have enjoyed few goals as much as that third one yesterday, and not just because it allowed me to start to relax. Gaston Ramirez is still not quite at the races, is he? Oozes class, lovely little ball to Jay to set up the first goal, silky skills but seems to run out of space too often and then runs out of steam. He seems very much a work in progress, but I was delighted to hear the response when he was taken off. It seems that most Saints fans have taken to him and if he stays with us he is going to be a Saints legend. Overall, though, the team I love looked superb yesterday. On a separate thread, Morgan is being lauded and rightly so. He is magnificent. Cork too is a stunning player. The "must keep" list is growing fast and it is hoped that when we kick off next season those on it are still with us. To that list I'd add both of the big money signings, which is nice, ain't it?
The problem is, Channon, most of them will think you support Liverpool. You will be popular in the Blue half of Liverpool....the Everton fans could have warned Liverpool...we should have beaten them by 3-4 goals. I think that a few other players will be getting contract extensions...Puncheon mentioned it when he got his new contract.
Thought Ramirez had a really good game actually. Great ball in for the first goal and set up Rodriguez for another chance. Also put in a phenomenal cross from the left during the first half which could easily have led to a goal on another day. Was unlucky to be subbed so early I felt, but Davis coming on had the desired effect.
Agree with this, have to admit I didn't notice some of what he was doing yesterday whilst I was at the game, but when I watched the game back when I got home (sad I know) I was surprised so see how much play he was creating. He had to come off, it had started raining.
Yep, I agree with you here. Ramirez was a big influence on the first half, from what I listened to on solent and saw on MOTD. He produced some great balls.
Thanks to fellow Saints for their view on Ramirez. Perhaps I am setting the bar too high. I do like the Ramirez/Davis sub when we are winning. Davis isn't flashy, but looks solid. Incidentally, in the part of Liverpool where we live there is about a 50/50 red blue split. In my local pub they are in no doubt about my allegiances and my nickname is inevitably "Sainty la"!
