Elis James mentioned this critical match for Swansea in 2003 on the BBC Lawro prediction challenge, he says..

"Elis James: I was at the 'James Thomas' game against Hull in 2003 when he scored a hat-trick and Swansea avoided relegation to the Conference, which was one of the most extraordinary matches I have ever been to, so I am able to put our current struggles in perspective."

    Here's the match report..

I had to Google Otsemebor (John as it turns out), seems he was a Liverpool loanee, was in Turkey at this period so was out of the loop..

Also who was the player called Smith?

Shaun Smith, weak-kneed ex-Crewe left back with a fierce free kick.

Surprisingly, he turned out to be (probably) Peter Taylors worst ever buy - played almost 400 games for Crewe, many of them as captain but looked like a scared rookie when he dropped into Div3 from a newly relagated Div1 Crewe.
