Chapter 1 of the Ladybird book of tactics The 10 golden rules of management. 1 â When chasing a game, be prepared to change tactics periodically, to persevere is admirable but not if it obviously isnât working. 2 â Always have a plan B, plan C and plan D (refer to lesson 1) 3 â As any craftsman will tell you use the right tool for the right job, a right back (despite scoring in the previous game) is not a striker and should not be used as such. 4 â Players that have been injured should not be used in games, unless your medical team has cleared them to do so. You are not medically trained and you actions may result in a lengthier absence from the first team. 5 â Never read your fans forums, they are not experts in football management (despite winning the champions league 5 years running with York Town on Championship Manager) and their opinions on your managerial ability will lower your self esteem and have you in tears. 6 â Though you may be right handed, a football team has to be able to use the left side equally as well as the right. Ignore the left at your peril (refer to lesson 3). 7 â Your local rivals must be beaten home and away, at worst the fans demand a good performance in these games as a minimum requirement. Poor seasons have been saved by a good win against your nearest and dearest. If you lose these games keep your head down (refer to lesson 5). 8 â After a defeat, donât use the usual sound bites: âwe have to learn....â, âI expect a reaction next week....â etc. etc. Fans donât want to hear the same thing week in, week out. 9 â If a player isnât performing on the pitch, you are allowed to drop them and give another player a chance. Be it local lad or the fans favourite, the fans will understand and admire your bravery (refer to lesson 5) 10 â If the worst happens and youâre sacked, donât worry that multi million pound payoff will lessen the blow and keep you in chewing gum until the next club offers you the chance to show you really do know what you are doing.
Well saying that, he will probably break the other 9 rules before the end of the season anyway (probably by the 2nd game lol)
Think I'll bookmark this and list the dates he breaks them (which we all know he will at some point in the season), we should run a book on how long it will take to do 1 - 9, No. 10 is a wait and see how he does, but if he follows 1 - 9 he'll still be in a job by the end of the season
Ok, as promised I bookmarked this thread and I'd said I'd list the dates he's broken the basic rules of management. Ok so on the 20th of August that's rules 1, 2, 6, 8, and half of rule 7 broken (could argue rule 3's gone as well) FFS it's only the 2nd game of the season.
Lets all hope, for the clubs sake and ours as fans, that rule 10 is enforced sooner rather than later then. I'll take Martin O Neills savvy and canny football ability over the fat Geordie loving twat's anyday.
Ta Disco, it was all done very much tongue in cheek, but we seem to have carried on where we left off at the end of last season and it's so ****ING frustrating. After a blistering start to the transfer window, it all looked so good but already mumblings of discontentment are starting and we need to get our ****e together or 10th place will seem like a ****ing dream.
Tongue in cheek or not VS, it has a ring to it. We have been awful for much of 2011 - our home record isn't much better than that of the 15 point team - and Bruce HAD to get the derby game right to stop any further discontent. He failed AGAIN miserably. I have played devil's advocate regarding his b&w roots and the reasons behind 3 consecutive derby no shows but the fact remains, he has lost 2 (one a thrashing) and luckily snatched a draw in the other of the 3 derby games against his boyhood club. His team selection, negative tactics at home and his indecisiveness during the game tells me all I need to know. He has to go and go sooner rather than later. The get Martin O Neill campaign before SB ****s this season up as well, starts here and now for me. We have a good squad but sadly not the man to get the best from it and the moire Quinny nails his colours to the Bruce mast, the less credibility he will have in Ellis Shorts eyes in the long term. Now that would be catastrophic.
Like you, I was vocal in wanting him out last season. 10th place by the skin of our teeth, papered over the ****ing awful run of last season, this season I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt and back him. As I've said elsewhere serious questions need to be asked and addressed and to be honest I think it's just a matter of time before we have a new man at the helm. With the backing the manager has had it's a shame he can't seem to do anything other than repeat last seasons mistakes. Tactically inept but a top man in the transfer market, it's just a tragedy he can't use the players he has at his disposal to their full potential, any manager who can do that will have a cracking season and we should have a lot of decent managers lining up for a chance with our club.
