After such retched form (or luck) it is a welcome relief to see the Gills win 2 on the spin and get up to the dizzying heights of 19th! So can we look at this as a turning point in our season and bid farewell to the relegation scramble or simply just a lucky break with the wins to once again dry up and leave us scrambling down at the bottom?
What an excellent player Doughty is, i was well impressed with him today, looked proper quality, up until the sending off. Very entertaining second half and good to see the old bulldog spirit in a Gills side, cannot even remember the last time i saw a decent guts and blood battle, bit exaggerated but the players certainly gave their all, Dickenson and Hessy looked knackered at the end. Good and bad points, has to be the combination of Legge and Egan as the spine of the side and Leon's double strike the icing on the cake. Bad points for me McGlashan and Hoyte, the latter not wanting to commit to going forward, or basically not appearing to want to commit to anything at all, apart from kicking the ball constantly backwards and leaving the responsibility of play to Legge. I wanted Fish to come on. McGlashan, sorry but he just is not cutting it for me, been worried about him for a while and today did not ease those concerns for me. Overall, very positive and i stayed to applaud the lads at the end.
Don't no if this win is a turning point as we still need a win away from home desperately. Gills played some decent football in the first half but after the penalty miss some heads went down and Orient began to get more into the game. Doughty was the stand out player especially in the first half but almost cost the Gills a vital win getting stupidly sent off. Not quite shaw why the referee did not send off there number 16 though for two yellows moments later. A fantastic couple of headers from Legge and then Codys finish at the end made it a great victory. Legge was outstanding in both ends of the pitch today so must continue there.
Ask me again after the Bradford game but I so hope we can build on the recent gutsy hardworking performances some quality in Doughty and Legge and the rest worked hard. Fingers crossed it is onwards and upwards!
Let's hope we can continue the winning run. It would be good if we could sign Simeon Jackson on loan to give us a bit more upfront
Well done, Gills - good point @ Bradford. The result shows what you can achieve if you dig in and keep on trying until the final whistle. The result might have been 'slightly' lucky - but recent JPT games and last week's effort v Orient shows that you can deserve a bit of luck - but you have to put in enough effort to make your own luck. UTG.
alwaysright - I agree, over the last three games its been more positive, a point is a point and a good one away. As we constantly say, its not the result but the effort that is put in.
