....Has washed over Charlton since the Sheffield Wednesday win. This is best encapsulated in a phrase I have read at least two dozen times since the Leicester defeat yesterday, a phrase indeed that should be engraved on the tombstone of every single member of the CAST/Bovril/Little ol Charlton brigade:

"I never expected anything out of the game"

Ha ha. **** off !. Why did you bother travelling then, you Kagool clad morons ?

I wonder if that was the attitude of Yeovil manager Gary Johnson yesterday, when they went down to EIGHT men away at Reading? I somehow doubt it, because the bloke and his remaining players clearly have qualities which many of our fans and many of our squad lack.

    1. Pride in their performance.
    2. Bottle
    3. Courage
    4. Spirit

And yesterday was not a one off. How many away games have we seen this season when we have failed to muster a decent attempt on goal in the whole 90 min ? And yet...they all get glossed over and airbrushed just because we have beaten a league two side and two poor Championship sides to face a League One side next Sunday.

    So f-----g what ?

The attitude of some fans is why, if and when we do go down this season, other teams (especially Millwall and Palace) will laugh at us as "the good old anoraks" getting what they deserve.

I am at the stage now where I would seriously urge RD to have a cull of our season ticket holders and members next season to try and do away with this smug fest that afflicts Charlton.

I would start by giving a life ban to anyone who has sat in the East or West Stand since 2006 and brings their own half time refreshments along to games. I am 100% serious.

I am obviously missing something. Do you sell out ur ground every week? In fact do you sell it out any week?
If not, ur Season ticket holders are not stopping any more vociferous fans attending the valley are they? Without your west stand regulars and season ticket holders you wouldn't have a club.

On the old "Your Views" which was the official fans forum on the OS there used to be endless insults between fans who blamed each other whenever we had a bad result. They used to call each other names like the "Doom-and-gloom merchants" and the "Ra-ra brigade"

I don't think our squad necessarily lack bottle. Apart from the new guys, of whom we haven't really seen enough yet to know if they do, all the players have been at Charlton long enough to show that they do have it. Plus, it's an insult to the youngsters who have performed so well to suggest that they don't have the balls for a fight.

Our manager doesn't lack bottle, either. He is a calm, quiet, considered man, quite unlike many of his contemporaries who will shout and yell on the sidelines until they're blue in the face, but he is a professional who also has a great personal connection with the club, and as a result will give his all to ensure we stay up.

If we do go down, it won't be because of lack of fight IMO. Nor will it be because of any complacency from the fans - watch or listen to the highlights of the QPR and Sheff Wed games to see how much they helped drag the team over the line. It will be because we lack quality, having had 2 of our best players sold halfway through the season and very little investment in the playing squad before or after then.

As a stonking example of said complacency and small time attitude, look no further than the Hopeless One's comments after yesterday's defeat:

"They are Champions Elect (are they?), given that I suppose I have got to be happy that it was not a heavy defeat"

****ing hell. Forget Winston and "We Shall Fight Them On The Beaches"

Who needs Churchill when you have got the stirring rhetoric of Chris Powell?

He was absolutely factually correct. You need to beat the teams around you and you will survive. Btw you are going to relegate wall and all ur angst is for nothing. You could do without the cup run though.

To be fair I agree with you here Nick. Was angry watching the Football League Show last night hearing Powell say he was happy it was only 3, it was Leicester, not Bayern Munich.

I still think we'll stay up though, not through Powell but through other clubs failings being more severe than our own.

Vol you're argument started well then tailed off into a fantasist egotistical nonsense. It reminded me of a less funny version of this.

So Vol... we'll have 2000 fans in a 27,111 seater stadium... sounds like solid logic.

I didn't expect to get anything out of Leicester (waiting for the abuse for saying that) BUT I went anyway because I am proud of my team, even when we are playing dog sh!te I am still proud to say I am a Charlton fan, I will be walking around Leicester (where I live) in my Charlton shirt quite happily, and I did so yesterday, even after the terrible lackluster performance. Yet I went, not because I expected anything out of the game, but because I was hoping we would and most of all, to show support for my favourite team, a team I don't know what I'd do without.

If we only take 300 away fans but they are proud, and they sing for large parts of the game like yesterday so be it. I don't care how many plastics are there or borvil drinkers as long as we always have those fans who are proud to stand up and say that they are Charlton fans. We have all been there in the dark times, whether it's the dark times of my generation (League 1 for 3 years and crap under Pardew) or whether it's being in Sh!thurst park in the 80s, We are Charlton, we are proud to be Charlton, and for once, lets take a note out of Millwall's book when it comes to other fans

"they don't like us, We don't care"

Palace and Millwall can think we are a joke all they want, But I don't give two craps, as long as I am proud of my team and others are too. I will follow this team to the end, as would Ponders, Captain, Mikey, FBH, yourself Vol and everyone else. We are not those Plastics you hate, or the Borvil drinkers (although we've all been accused of being one the past 5 months) yet as long as there are passionate people such as ourselves who are proud to say we are CAFC I don't care how many Plastics there are, we do need them financially but the core will never change, it will be people like us who Stand by the team through thick and thin

Are you Man U in disguise ? I ask as you appear to think its Charlton's (or more precise Powell's) fault if we don't win every game. You started with me agreeing, pride passion etc, but then you got on your normal high horse of taking out & shooting anyone who does not agree with you. If you really want to follow a club that only has Vol supporters I suggest you establish Vol Town in the Kent league & then sack yourself when you don't win the league. I really think you have lost the plot if you want to cut off our income stream, if you are bankrolling the club out of your own pocket then that's fine, But I think you will find my hard earned cash has the same value as yours & if I want to say Powell is a god, (which I don't) then don't try to ban me. Or if we stay up & win the cup, will you promise to never darken the Valley again,... No I would not expect you to so do not slat people who do not bow to your extremest comments Vol, this post is not only making you a laughing stock, its making you an offensive one at that. Perhaps when you have reread your comments you will realise you have over stepped the mark big time & apologies to all who sit outside your little Vol enclave.

To add to what CAFC Ted said, I would argue that travelling to an away game from which you don't expect to get anything is the very definition of a true football fan.

CAFC Ted- You are factually incorrect to say I'm not a bovril drinker. I love the stuff, and when I filled in the questionnaire I said that what I wanted at The Valley to improve the matchday experience was proper bovril, not the powdered stuff; also shorter queues so that I could actually buy it.

Ok, we all know you're a bit of a d**k (or pehaps more than a bit). You keep rattling on about how you went to Wednesday and how you went to Leicester as if we all needed to know you're a true Charlton supporter.

Well I went to Wednesday, it was a league match in 1969. I went to Leicester in 1970 and ended up on the pitch when us fans were rushed from behind by a load of Leicester supporters. I had my jaw fractured in a ruck with Villa fans, I lost money when my shares were wiped out by Tricky Dicky.

Now, in my dotage, I like to sit in the Upper West in my best cardie and sip my Bovril (last two bits aren't true) and I feel I've earned the right after supporting the club for 56 years.

I don't need a facist like you trying to prevent my enjoyment, win or lose!

See you in the west upper HRH <ok>. The whole idea that the north stand is everything that represents Charlton is laughable.

It's true, for all I disagree with Vol, I don't want the insults going any further. Seriously, if we can't have conversations without them, threads will be closed. Simple.
