One of our all time greats and my first R's hero......

Not sure why but latterly Phil's R's career appears to have been airbrushed out and the only reference are the amount of appearences he made for West Ham.

For me he is still the finest keeper we ever had.....

Edit...sorry should add that today 22nd August is the day in 1970 when Phil made his debut for us....

Certainly one of our greats. It was such a shame he was around in the same era as Shilton and Clemence. The fact such an outstanding keeper only got one England cap when you consider some of those that have many more caps weren't anywhere near his class says all you need to know about the decline of English keepers...

I didn't worry about our 'keeper for years when he was around, easily our best in my time, and that includes Seaman.

I thought he spoke really well at a LR visit recently - good to hear his recent op for bowel cancer appears to have been 100% successful.
