Shola is a good lad for me . Always gave his best, loved the club and stuck it to the scum a few times. His lack of ability was not his fault.
He clearly just loves playing football too. There aren't too many ex-Premier League players who would still be happy putting in the graft to play for Notts County at 36 years old. He gives his all and plays to the best of his abilities. He may not have been gifted with the natural talent of a lot of Premier League players, but he was certainly gifted with more heart and love of the game than most.
Useless bone idle shyte hawk who stole a living at nufc.. .... Time clouds the mind he couldn't trap a bag of sand and never broke sweat ... ...312.....games and 53 goals over a 14 year period... ... ****in legend eh.
That smile. It lights a room. I watched England U21's play in Leicester in 2001. Beat Mexico 3-0 and Shola performed a great Cryuff turn by the corner flag to put in a perfect cross for Jay Boothroyd. Honestly thought we had a great talent after seeing him then. ps. Sunderland were in the Championship in 2007 so Shola wasn't required.
Rose tinted glasses being sold en masse on this Board. Came across as a really nice, genuine person but as a footballer he underachieved as never fulfilled his promise. Played decently alongside Shearer but in part this was down to Shearer constantly having to “rollick” him during the game so that he would put in that little extra that’s needed at the top level. Once Shearer had gone he always seemed to coast it and had some good games but too many where he was on the periphery and never scored the goals his talent dictated he should. Still, overall, liked him as a person and character.
