Jumping on Wize's fun competion idea, try this one. Two "similar" players from City, past or present, going head to head. All you have to do is pick your fave out of them and why. I will start off with Glyn Riley and Steve Neville.......... p.s...if I were to choose from above it would be SN as he was more technical and skillfull to watch.
Steve Neville for me,however Glyn Riley was a great player.both scored some cracking goals for city freight rover at Wembly what a day against Bolton 3-0 TO THE CITY
Bryan Drysdale and Mickey Bell. Almost impossible to choose between them. Depending on other fans choices, I'll probably be back with another pair.
I'm gonna answer this purely on my minds recollection of which player has stuck in my memory more, So, Glyn Riley. Mark Gavin. Mickey Bell.
OK, here is one for the older guys among us. Jack White v Geoff Merrick Both well respected skippers of home grown promotion teams.
Now thats just plain nasty Wize!.....I would probably have to choose Scotty as, like said earlier, he is still at the front of the memory banks plus his interacting with the crowd (both home and away...."I can't hear you Cardiff!") always endeared him to AG. I also remember the "unknown" Clive Whitehead in the Dicks era fondly and all the goals he supplied. Scotty for me though.
Allison or Akinbyi; Much prefer Tanglefoot if only for his entertainment value. Remember on game at Grimsby under Osman (one of our worst managers). City as usual just did not turn up until Big Wayne hit a screamer from 20 yards that bounced seven times before the Grimsby keeper managed to smother it. Got to be Garland if only cos I was a friend of his when we was travelling away when he was only 12. and also for his efforts after he got dumped and yet came back after 1982 to help out. Yet if it was aerial based, the Galley wins by a mile. And to answer my earlier post as no one else seems to be as old as me on here. Geoff Merrick over Jack White but both were good captains over long periods. How about this new one? Gow or Tinnion?
Both have their considerable merits and different strengths, and both are true legends. For me overall, Gerry just shades it
Can I call it a tie?..........probably Gow edges it for me tbh.......no.....Tinns......no no no......definately Gow.............actualy Tinns............TIE!
You could say 5 as Mike Gibson was in goal, actually Gow never made his debut for City until 1970,our little gathering always called Garland and Galley the "G-Men" as they were our twin strikers of the time..
