WITH THE ATROCITIES IN BELGIUM it is a time for vigilance .. no country in Europe is safe, it is to big a place to hide, and the danger has been implanted over the past 2 or 3 years. . it has no longer become a question of when, but where, the when is anytime.

Guerrilla warfare and terrorism is the hardest to combat because they do not have rules or logic ... I was lucky by one day when they struck in London at Tavistock square ... the day after! I often wondered what I would have done as the point of my being there, and parking for the 2 mins I needed was just 50m down from the bus!
My greatest fears are the football games, and the travelling, IN A FEW MONTHS WE HAVE THE EURO'S ... we cant cancel them, as that would give them what they want ... in a crowded place the worst thing to do would be to run? a natural instinct ... result stampede and results of ... staying in place but making oneself as safe and small as possible would to me be my logical response .. but of course you cant do this readily if all around are in "understandable panic" ....

Terrorism is the scourge of the planet. Many years ago when the Air India flight was blown out of the sky over the Atlantic my wife and I were at Vancouver airport right beside the check in desk for a flight to Tokyo which resulted in the death of a baggage handler after the plane had landed. Sad world religion has given us.

I used to fly to Brussels for my old job
Not right - simply not right - how people do this in the name of religion is beyond me

What I'm struggling to understand is why it took the Belgium authorities to arrest the Paris orchestrator. Listening to radio 2 today a lot of comments said that why it took so long and why was it not on high alert. And the only thing I can deduce from it is there are too many authorities in one city that don't talk to each other.
This is a sad state of affairs and we know take one cell out and another appears so how do you stop it? You could hope that one day the good Islamic believers stand up against it themselves instead of hiding behind blaming the western states going to war.
What is I wonder the odds on civil war breaking out in one of the euro zones when nationalist start gathering people? Remember Hitler, he started by convincing people to change and those who opposed him stood quietly and let it gather.
I know some will come on here and say not all Muslims are terrorist, and that's true! But rather than argue amongst who's good and who's bad think about these innocent people dying or maimed.

I was having a discussion this afternoon with a friend, Andorra has 1 road going in and 1 road coming out..to get to France or Spain any other way is via extreme mountain routes. Belgium has 3 or 4 major routes going in or out and about a dozen or more main ones ... then .. you have hundreds of smaller routes around 5 different countries ... and open spaces via water or across flat fields.... try and defend that!
Holland border with Belgium and Germany, Spain border with France / Portugal ...
Frances borders with neighbours are all mountainous / or awkward landwise ... except Belgium ... easy peasy ...
then discussing the area's they hide out in ... high density population of similar ethnic background, it cant be easy to police that ..every City in the world have them ...
ok BELGIUM took a while, but got there in the end ... too late you may say but think about what they disturbed and found due to intelligence and perseverance explosives detonators and AK47'S WAS this to be part of todays events also? so could today have been 2 or 3 times worse ... we may never know ...
    good points ROD

This is just tip of the iceberg as long as these misguided, brainless, idiots intent on vengeance against the easy going and relaxed Western culture they despise so much are allowed to spread their hate around the planet.

I fly to America for a holiday tomorrow, from Heathrow.

I'm expecting everything at the airport to take a lot longer.

My thoughts are with the innocent victims of Brussels meanwhile.

Brussels, the very centre of European Union.
Easy going attitudes, no go areas in Brussels and Paris together with open borders.
    Perfect conditions for ISIS.
Yet we wonder how/why these atrocities happen, but hang on, aren't we were all safer in the EU.

Please don't comment, according to Cameron it's not appropriate.

Interestingly, the concept of terrorism (or 'guerrilla warfare' if you like) was first adopted by the American rebels fighting against the British in the American war of independence. The population would be 'innocent' civilians, expecting protection and assistance from the Redcoats by day - and then murderers (or 'freedom fighters' if you are a US citizen of course) by night.

I'm afraid that I think its a matter of 'when and where' not 'if', regarding an attack here.

One thing that all ways amazes me is how sky get their main presenters to the scene of tragedy just after its happened
when all transport links in and out would be on lock down?

They are probably tipped off by intelligence that something is due to go down. Isis
need the media to promote its evil intentions. There must be some communication as it
was reported that Isis have said they were responsible.
