I was amongst the 1400 brave Townies who sang their hearts out yesterday even when we were 7-1 down. We decided to do the conga at that point because the entertainment on the pitch wasn't worth watching. Gallows humour was all we could offer as that was an absolutely shocking display. There were at least 4 players that should no longer be let near the shirt again. Delaney, Smith, Leadbitter and Edwards. Leadbitter especially is the biggest waste of space and how the **** he was given the captaincy is beyond me! The only contribution he made was to set up Peterboro for one of the goals. The guy is a waste of space and if Portsmouth want to pay money for him then I will drive the useless ****er down there myself. There is no leadership on the pitch and no pride in the shirt. You can't coach that. Either you play with pride and passion or you don't and far too many of them simply have no pride in Ipswich Town. Jewell has made big mistakes with his transfer policy and although now is not the time to lambast him he will be judged on his signings and his abject failure in sorting out our defence. He has had all summer to sort this area out and it shows that teams will score against us at will. **** knows what the cricket score will be at Portman Road next week. His policy of signing 30+ has beens is deeply flawed as it showed again yesterday. Why the hell did he sign an injury prone 33 year old at Centreback! There is no pace through the team and absolutely no desire to graft and work hard. Why would you I guess when you have done it all before and are now looking to pick up one last big pay packet before you retire! The club should now refund the cost of all the tickets bought for the game yesterday as a sincere act of good will to all those poor souls that had to endure that shower of ****. The home game against Leeds will probably see around 10,000 at Portman Road if they are lucky. Get rid of Leadbitter, Delaney, Smith and Ainsley and play Peters at Rightback. Rant Over
I watched the match on Sky, so you can never really tell as well as being there, but I didn't think Edwards was especially bad. Agree that Delaney was as much of a donkey as he's always been, Smith's 67 seconds sums him up really, and Leadbitter isn't a good enough battler to warrant his spot in the side. If Peters doesn't get a game at full-back after we've shipped 12 in two games, then I don't think he ever will. I'm also worried that Bowyer, a man I thought would truly command and dominate the midfield, is looking little more than a lazy, ageing has-been. He's probably the biggest disappointment for me. Poor Chops must want to sod off back to Cardiff - at least he got some service there!
agree with you on almost everything jwm apart from i do actually believe delaney can be effective, only when he is playing with an experienced, assured partner. It is clear that we need defensive cover asap but i still think delaney has a future. the same cannot be said for tommy smith i am afraid. i dont really understand what has happened, he seems to have gone backwards at a rate of knots. he had a great world cup but looks like he has next to no confidence, probably a result of keane's fatherly management style
Peters at right backs not the answer played terrible against northampton n thats a leauge 2 side. Dont get me wrong was pro peters but that performance wouldn't warrent starting place even in after posh game. If u cant show passion when given the opportunity wat says u can do it when the chips r down n u need real grit from the boys
Lets sign a couple of CB's urgently, dont care how much they cost....need all the players to put in a performance againt Leeds..or this will turn into a crisis if we are this poor for much longer
Unfortunately JWM there is no quality guarantee when you buy your tickets. Would be interesting what response you would get from trading standards!
Exactly, refund should be no problem, nearly 1,400 Town fans paid to see 2 Teams play a game of football, only 1 of them bothered to play though, so clear breach of trading standards.....IMO.
The issue with Edwards + Cresswell at full back at the minute, is for a team to play attacking fullbacks, solid centre backs are needed along with some protection from midfield. My thoughts on the game and each individual player...... Stockdale - Did alright after letting in 6. Alright, they weren't easy to save but I wasn't especially happy about how long it took him to dive for the ball, and lack of ability to narrow down the angle. Edwards - best of the back 4. Did fine really, not a great deal wrong that I can remember Ainsley - not a CB and showed, feel for the lad having this as a debut match. Tried but painfully not good enough. Delaney - Donkey Delaney - Meant to organise the defence. Didn't. Left huge gaps, the aim was to get Ainsley through the game alright. Awful. Cresswell - Not too impressed, got carved open far too often for me. Check their 2nd goal I think, what on earth was he doing. Martin - played rather well. Good runs, link up etc. Never a red card. Carson - I can see what Jewell meant regarding fitness, looked so far off the pace. Get your head down at training boy, or theres no point in us bothering with you. Would rather Edwards on the wing, he deserves a go there should we get a RB in. Andrews - Quality goal, tried hard. A bit off the pace ( understandably as just come from Blackburn ) however I think will prove a great signing. Leadbitter - summed up in a nutshell my thoughts of how terrible he has been with us. Completely conned for £2 mill, out of his depth, 10 metres off the pace, gave the Pboro midfield time and space to command. Shocking captain, pathetic. JET - first 30 played v well ! I could see why we signed the lad... couldn't do nothing about those behind..... Chopra - ran and ran, made a good run first 25..... In all fairness, I think Jewell picked the team most of us wanted for the game. Martin + Carson wide, JET off the striker, with Smith dropped. I don't think anyone would argue over the team selection. Bring on Leeds
