Why Bristol City are getting very excited about Rory Holden
U23s assistant coach Alex Ball heaps praise on the youngster

Bristol City U23s assistant coach Alex Ball has hailed the performance of two men at different ends of their careers.
One of the stand out players in the 1-0 win against Liverpool U23s in the Premier League cup yesterday was young Rory Holden.
The 20-year-old attacker from Derry joined Bristol City in the summer from Derry City and the assistant coach has heaped praise on the youngster.

“[In] the last few games, it’s not just been tonight, he’s been one of our top performers in terms of his attacking play,” said Ball, adding that Rory has improved his defensive game since moving from Ireland.

“We’re able to press from the front [with] intensity and aggression… he’s added that in to his game which maybe he didn’t have when he joined us.”

Ball also praised 34-year-old Gary O’Neil’s contribution to the victory.

Tuesday night’s game was the first time the 34-year-old has played in a game since undergoing surgery in October 2017 following a re-occurring hamstring injury problem he picked up in a Carabao Cup tie against Watfo
    rd.

Ball stated that the presence of a veteran player is always good for the youth team.

“He was able to pass that [his experience and ability] on to the other players on the pitch and at the right time he was able to slow things down.

“When we needed a period of possession he made sure he was the one to go and get it and say ‘look guys calm down, we’re okay’.”

The former Southampton development coach added: “That’s great for our boys when we have the first team players who come and play, it’s great that experience they pass on.”

Would be could to have O'Neil back fully fit and what a great prospect Holden looks to be, I have read reports but no real knowledge of him, I didn't think he was as inpressive as reported, good news.

O'Neil must be the best paid player ever to grace Ashton Gate per game time.

For the run in we seem to be getting the squad back together ! Pisano was looking good before his long absence, Fam has certainly come back as good as Hegler,Milan and Callum will certainly give us strength in depth
