Swan in peace Thought I would chuck my opinions into the ring seeing that us upstarts will be playing you tomorrow. First of all let me say that Liverpool have always been my second team and us Swans have always enjoyed a âspecialâ relationship with you and long may it continue! I will also say that I harbour no bad feeling toward Brendan; he was given the chance of a lifetime when offered the Liverpool job and would have been insane to turn it down. And as for his supposed disloyalty at âpoachingâ players and staff from us all I can say is that itâs his job â he brought players to us from other clubs when he was our manager and none of us complained at the time â I feel it is somewhat hypocritical to then slag him off when he puts the best interests of his new club before his old one! As the co-editor of an unofficial SCFC fanzine, I met Brendan on several occasions and always found him to be genuine and passionate and wish him every success in his career. He signed a contract before his move to Merseyside that guaranteed we would be handsomely compensated if, and when, he left us â he didnât have to do that â the fact that he did says a lot about the man! I for one will be showing him the respect he deserves when he returns to the Liberty tomorrow. I am also encouraged by the patience the Kop faithful are showing him, much is said about his football philosophy and all credit to you and your board for giving him the time to implement it; he is building for the future and I believe he will get you back to the top echelon of British football. Now on to the Suarez/Williams bollocks; Ash is a top professional but I feel he has been set up by the ghost writer of his autobiography; how can we sell more books? Get him to slag off the âbad boyâ of English football! Itâs too easy and a pathetic ploy to shift copies of the book by tapping into the mediaâs obsession with attention grabbing headlines. Itâs a non story, Ash has been naïve at worst and fallen into the trap of speaking honestly to a media whore out for sensationalism â the publisherâs just wanna sell books and donât give a **** about the repercussions their sensationalism causes. I donât believe that Ash realised how inflammatory his comments would be, but also believe he was very foolish to voice them. And on to Suarez! His histrionics do him no favours; he is a magnificent player, maybe the best in the PL at the minute, but he lets himself down with his constant diving. His talent is without question but there is a very cynical and dark side to his play, one that the game could do without â he doesnât need to do it, he has a wonderful talent that most can only dream about. Good luck for the season LFC, Brendan will get you back where you belong, but really hope you have an âoffâ day tomorrow
Good post Think we can see that we are starting to play some good football and we are being patient especially as we have some exciting young players who are just breaking through (Wisdom, Sterling, Suso). The way Swansea were playing last year was good to watch and some say it was partly down to other managers but BR obviously had some influence in this and I think many feel if we can get us playing in a similar way (quick one touch passing from back to front) with the added quality of players we have (no disrespect to Swansea but Danny Graham is no Luis Suarez) then it's only a matter of time before we start putting in consistant winning performances. Bit concerned by his transfer activities so far (Allen & Borini) two players he's already worked with and heavily linked with Sturride another he's worked with at Chelsea and going for Gylfi who he had last year and whether he plays it safe with players he knows but give hm a few more windows and I guess we'll soon find out. We all know we are missing a CF which will hopefully be sorted in Jan. this year was always going to be a strange one... managers normally need time to settle and I think that showed with our early performances but things are slowly getting better and if we are competitive for those top 6 places this year then I think we all feel that in the next 2 years we should be able to push onto 4th and with FFP coming in, we stand in a good chance of pushing on from there. Onto Swansea, will be good to see you push into top half of the table this year and then try push on for the Europa places in the coming years. Will be good to see how your style of play gets on in Europa (if you took it seriously) as I think you'd be more successful than most English teams who enter.
Interesting that you chose to talk about Suarez's 'dark side'. I would really like to know how you feel that Suarez is any different to any top forward who also contain an element of nastiness in their play?
You watch MOTD earlier? Liam Ridgewell clearly dived and Linekar said "if it was Suarez people would be jumping up and down about it" or something along those lines. But guess what, LR is English so three different angles played once each and move on
Cartoon good post mate, though I had to go to the toilet to vomit! Just kidding................... PS: Suarez got a dark side? Don't be silly, these scousers would never believe that, now you've done it!............... please log in to view this image
Suarez is the best 'in-form' player in the league at present, you stop him and I predict a draw (1-1). If you don't stop him, sorry to say it but he'll tear you guys a new arsehole (1-3). I saw this quote on the BBC and it's supposedly all over Twitter "I hate Luis Suarez so much that I actually really like him now" Although, people won't admit it I'm sure that's not far off the mark for many people. He brings controversy to the game, but with that he brings magic. He's a crazy genius.... when you look at past players such as, Gazza, Cantana, Maradonna, Zidane etc etc, they all had a dark side. Yes you could argue Bergkamp, Henry and some didn't. But across the board (not just football) there is a tendency for being exceptional at what you and being a bit ****ing crazy - the two go hand in hand P.S. Good OP
That's a good point. However, Ridgewell will not be crucified. Not because he is English as you say. It is because he is not a regular diver. This may sound blunt but Suarez does it constantly. He is also nasty or has a nasty streak ( while not denying his ability) so will never get any sympathy or understanding. Not that he is too bothered with that
For someone who does it "constantly", I'm struggling to remember the last time he did it, and i watch nearly all of Liverpool's games
So, because of his personality, you think he is being isolated then...? IMO, incidents should be treated individually. If a player makes a ridiculous dive then highlight and make them ashamed, whether that be a one time performer like Phil Neville or Liam Ridgewell (or have they never been caught before, ie they are good at it ) or a serial offending like Suarez or Nani. I agree Suarez makes things difficult for himself
Suarez is a professional. Past and present players in the media have all declared that "if a player feels a touch" then a foul has been committed. To therefore single-out Suarez for employing that philosophy is rather hypocritical. Additionally we have seen defenders retaliate by accusing Suarez of a dive even when a foul has been clearly committed - and then compound the insult by demanding a card! If the players want to limit the scope for diving then they have to accept that football is a contact game.
Well either your memory is not very good or you see things differently to most people including fans on this board . We all remember that funny dive in the penalty area a few seconds after a 'tackle' with other players a few yards away. And there have been other occasions after that. Look that he is a great player is fact so too is the one that he is a regular diver....
