Not Neymar's 200m. Not M'Bappe. Not Pogba, Morata, VDV or any of the other eyewatering record breaking fees.

Chelsea spent 18 million on Giroud. I rate the guy and a couple of years ago that wouldn' have been a crazy fee.

But they spent 18m and then gave him an 18 month contract. All that money and he'll be a free agent at the end of next season.

That is the biggest transfer market mind **** I have seen yet.

    You're right.
From an accounting point of view, they have to reduce his value to £0 through the course of his contract.
That means a £1m per month charge + wages for a player who couldn't get in to Arsenal's team

Feel he’s been signed to cover them to the end of season, and then they’ll splash out on someone new, and then ship him on. Unless he bags sometime like 20 goals between now and the end of the season, then they’d give him a new contract.

The experts on Sky Sports News last night were saying it was the best deal of the window and they got him ridiculously cheap when compared to other deals. Opinions eh???

I cant see any logic in transfer fees anyway, they should be regulated, or better still abolished.

Personally think Giroud is chronically underrated, and a great buy for Chelsea.

Madness upon madness, we the fans think it's stupid and yet we all get caught up in it. Gangsters and Con men have realized they don't have to use strong arm tactics and deceit to make money... they just set themselves up as football agents.

Mix them with Billionaires who know fek all about football, yet feel they should own a Club to inflate their status and you have the mess this game is in now.
We are left with petulant, spoilt young millionaire players, whom ride into work in their expensive cars, having no allegiance to any club, to play at times, utterly dire football.
I imagine Shankley and Clough to be turning in their graves at the pathetic state of this 'the peoples game' mired in greed and corporate money. If the FA ever did check the rule book, they'd find out that football is played on a level playing field,

Hay ho, onward and upwards, have to keep the faith

Couldn't agree more. A proper goalscorer for £16million or something like that is cheap at half the price in this screwed up world of football transfers

Absolute pinch mate. Nailed on Chelsea will have a years option as well.

    He’s a superb player.

I really rate him mate but 18m for an 18 month deal whereby he could just walk across the road to Tottenham is madness in my eyes.

He' only 31, I know Chelsea are dickhead with that over 30 - 2 year contract rule but it seems mad that you wouldn't tie an asset down for longer when you've spent that on them.

Sort of player who will age well and will have an extended career, absolute weapon to have at your disposal and a fantastic attitude to go with it. He's still got a 10m+ value going into the Summer. That's when his future will be decided imo, can't see him running that contract down. It will be a summer extension or he'll leave to play football imo. We'll see though, looks a steep deal but only by about 5 million. Price is always higher for Chelsea and City and rightly so, it could have been higher but clearly the selling to a rival angle didn't wash <laugh>
