I've heard a whisper, has anybody heard about this....?

' As someone has posted elsewhere a problem has arisen with the sale of the Mem. There is apparently a strip of land that is not proved to be owned by The Memorial Stadium Co and which is needed to allow the sale to progress.

This has been confirmed by a member of the planning committee at BCC and so there is now a hold up. By all accounts it is the City Council making a fuss about this and not Sainsburys.'

Somebody on the "gashead" side has ****ed up and it's delaying the whole project......

Excuse me but we don't have any right to be smug about their new stadium when ours has been a major cock-up from the beginning.

Absolutely. I feel bad for them if they get caught up in similar issues to us.

It's ****ing disgraceful that neither team can build a new stadium in Bristol without all these issues.

Personally hope they get the ground. Sooner the better, Seems like a silly thing that will only hold it up for a few days/weeks. Won't take long to resolve

Their situation is different to ours we are dealing with a bunch of Nimby's they cocked up over a bit of land. If they didn't own the land in the first place could whoever owns it kick them out of the mem for trespass? no one seems to know how big a piece of land is involved but if it is a large piece I doubt if BRFC could afford the cost of the indemnity insurance as it could be for millions. I'm not sure if this is correct but I seem to remember reading years back that the ground at the mem was donated to the rugby club in rememberance of Rugby players who died in WW1 if so with the rugby club leaving the site it could be that BRFC are not entitled to sell part or all of the land. Like I said was many years ago when I read this I think in Bristol Central Library when I was collating BCFC's footie results, back to when they started, in the old Newspspers there.

When you look around at clubs who have secured very good new homes over the last 10 years we are an absolute joke. At least we are playing like a joke lately.

When you also consider the massive amount of new house building and massive new developments in and around Bristol in the last 20+ years, it's a ****ing disgrace that neither club can get what it needs to be competitive.

    I'll repeat it, it's a ****ing disgrace.

I'm largely against relocation, but a part of me genuinely thinks that the club should look to building our ground outside of Bristol.

For starters, the land would be a lot cheaper. Secondly, we'll probably have a better time with a different council that would want the jobs. There is a lot of land surrounding Bristol, and I reckon that Lansdown could sell Ashton Vale and secure some land on the outskirts.

It would be the perfect retaliation to the council and the mayor. They allowed this farce to continue, and I don't buy their statements of being "unable to help".

Couldn't agree more. Bolton moved to Horwich.

What about the Cadbury site at KEYNSHAM? Railway line right to the door.

The railway is one thing but its a tiny station. The roads around Keynsham just wouldn't be able to handle the traffic either. Somewhere down towards Brent Knoll/Highbridge would be better. Good motorway links and close(ish) to Bristol Airport too.

A4174 South Glos ring road gives good access to M32/M4. Plus new exit from Keynsham by-pass?

Don't you go offering my Brent Knoll as a potential site for relocation because my will says I want my ashes scattered on the top so I can see my world as it was in my youth. I lived in Edithmead and woke up to the sight of the knoll every morning when the weather was clear, which obviously wasn't very often.

Hang on a minute it would mean that I wouldn't have to buy a season ticket so go for it. Not too morbid for this early in a Canadian morning is it?

My thoughts exactly. If Lansdown can get the businesses behind it, and can get things moving quickly then it could re-create a ton of jobs for that area.

There would need to be some new infrastructure set up, but it's a good idea.

David Lloyd has just emailed me to say club "are now faced with a simple choice between Ashton Vale or Ashton Gate, both of which lie in our historical South Bristol heartland. There are no plans to look for a site elsewhere."

So let the "Minimal Strip of Land" Thread continue without City being discussed.

Nothing to be sorry about mate I actually, like the majority of us REDS want you to have your stadia, I do note, 'The Chairman expect's the document to land with him imminently, and it will then be signed by all parties.'

    Let's hope all goes well...
