We desperately require another striker, loose Tammy or Kodji and we are going to struggle. Is it a big name or another youngster with potential. For me we require the real deal, someone that can do it at this level. Then we can sit back and see how the season unfolds.
I'm not sure if you'll ever be happy with our lot RR. Whilst I agree in as much as we could do with additional cover up front, I don't agree that our position is such that we are in desperate need to spunk a significant amount of cash (transfer fee and wages) on a Jordan Rhodes or similar. People like you make out that it's simple to find and sign a player with 'experience at this level' - a lot seems to have changed for you since we were '100% ready'. Kodjia and Abraham are both very good for the Championship, we can also easily accommodate a 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation and whilst people write off Wilbraham due to his age, he still has something to offer. How many clubs in this division have a 3rd choice striker that would be capable of scoring 20 goals a season? Beyond that, Garita looked comfortable enough during pre-season to suggest he would exactly be a liability either. I understand the need for a certain amount of caution re: injuries and Kodjia likely to be away during the African Cup of Nations, but at the same time you need to have faith in the ability and depth of the players already here. We've already seen from the last time we were in the Championship, the problems with having a bloated squad, and not necessarily only with the huge expense that comes with it (it's easy to spend SL's money for him though right?). I'd suggest a promising youngster/free agent/loan signing would be sufficient - if circumstances are such that come the winter window it's worth investing then (like Middlesbrough did with Rhodes last year), maybe they should and will go for it. I think it'd take an unprecedented amount of s**t to hit the fan for us to truly be in trouble. Given how outstanding this transfer window has been for us, I say have faith in the club to make the right call about how much further to go.
Source? With both Golbourne and Bryan, I'd be a bit surprised (unless it was a kid intended for the youth team).
You will soon learn that even when the window has been shut for one week, he will still be harping on for the next player he wants saying we should off etc. Or even better he heard we was interested in.
We are alright Nick until a injury or bookings kick in,not to mention the africa cup. As i have said on another thread, we are a million miles from where we were last year. Very happy with what has gone on,just see a problem up front when something goes tits up.
Sure, but one might say it's one of those 'you could be hit by a bus tomorrow' situations. Because of what 'might' happen, you think it's a requirement for us to spend maybe £10m on a transfer fee and maybe £30k a week in wages?
One of my big bugs is why do we sign players that want to disappear once in a while to get some sun and play some football down Africa way? Why doesn't that continent play their tourney in the off season?
Can't hold it against a player who wants to represent their country, and I think it's disrespectful to say it's because they want to 'get some sun'. Also, I've read that one of the key reasons for the timing of the Cup of Nations is to do with the climate (not solely temperature), with some African nations experiencing extreme conditions during our summer months - besides which, the footballing World does not revolve around Europe, do why should they change it? If you think this is a reason to slate City for signing Kodjia then that's your opinion - I think £2.5m has proven a snip for him.
Can you name any strikers that you know can "do the business in this division" that are willing to sit behind our wonder kid striker who has hit the ground running that we worked hard to bring in, our 10+ million valued international striker? All in the hope he might get a game when there's an injury or in January during the African Nations? All ears if you have a few names that would represent value for money. You have to hear in mind we just got rid of a striker that fits that bill, who is deemed only good enough for league 1. So you are looking for a player from that league willing to sit on the bench or turnout for the reserves for a mid table looking championship side rather than play week in week out for his current club wracking up appearance fees and goal bonus' whilst establishing his name. You want something in my opinion that doesn't exist. Whenever has this club had three of the best strikers in the division all at once? Kodja Tammy Wilbraham De Giralom Wes Burns (can be recalled in an emergency). Plenty there for a club of this size. We aren't in the prem yet!
