It’s been discussed before but is this the beginning of technology being used to help the referee? For me, so long as it’s used for the right issues, then I would be in favour.

IMO it should be restricted to penalties, sending offs, goals and where I think it’s against our best interests. Used properly and efficiently then it would reduce the number of wrong decisions being made. I’d rather have “right” decisions than a rant in the Pub afterwards about how we were robbed again...and again...and again.

Even with VAR there will still be huge debate over incidents and whether the right decision was made. Or whether the ref should or shouldn't have changed his decision when an incident is reviewed. It should cut out some stinkers but I would hope they can get better at using it properly because some of the times it was used in the world cup was comical.

The amount of money at stake in the premiership means that this has to happen, hopefully for the better. I remember when we were relegated in 2009 a perfectly good goal disallowed from Viduka v Fulham which would have probably saved us. I was quite impressed with how much better VAR was at the world cup compared to the odd cup game I watched last season. I seem to remember Paul Tierney having an absolute stinker in a Tottenham game with VAR, he's a ****ing muppet tho so no surprise.

There'll still be debates to be had, you only have to look at the WC Final to see that but hopefully they will be few and far between.

    You fools, don't you realise?
    We're letting THEM in.
Soon football will be played by 22 robots, of the exact same ability, with each game ending 0-0 whilst we're forced to watch and cheer by our technological overlords.

Sky will still buy the rights ofcourse.

If VAR didn't result in Mitro getting a penalty against Switzerland, then it doesn't work any better than refs

This is it, if you come away still wondering how on earth a decision is made, then it's not a massive improvement. There were instances where the right decision was made in real time and a shocker via VAR.

If we have to have VAR because it is better than nothing:

    1. I don't agree with a ref making the decision via a screen at the side of the pitch. Video ref makes the call or nothing, otherwise it is one person effectively making the decision to review, and another pointlessly confirming. Waste of time.

    2. There should be some guidance that if it is marginal, barely contact, barely a foul, and the onfield ref has gave no foul, then play on. Howlers only. Keeps the game speed up.

    3. Clear and decisive conclusion. Video prompt to say penalty, free-kick, corner whatever, and the reason for it. Sometimes there was a bit of confusion over what was happening, especially for the players. Any delay via protest must result in a yellow card to all protesting players. Any protest after a yellow must be a red, and the captain should be suspended for the next game.

Doesn’t bother me whether they have it or not. Bad decisions are part and parcel of any sport be it by the player, ref or manager. VAR can be quite entertaining however particularly when it shows player was diving etc.
