That´s how we´ve been clamouring for them to play Take an early lead, then don´t throw it away And for once we seemed more solid than frail Which should give them all a boost, without fail Changes were expected after the last game But some surprising names out of the frame Not least M. Turner, pushed down to the bench But his replacement, Cuellar, dug his trench And this week Ruddy, much maligned of late Did what was needed to keep a clean slate Wingers were dropped once again, and this time The move seemed to help everything to rhyme O´Neil, I must say, I like in the role Of midfield general, to lead and cajole And although one-nil may not seem like much This was a big win, to help keep in touch I was reminded at the full time blast Of many Man U results from the past Coincidence, it was, quite probably But they were masters at turning one point to three So one or two smiles hopefully are back And Adams for once, should not get the flak. Yes, one win doesn't make a season, but then there's still 26 matches to go and the passage of time has a way of humbling those who show too much hubris. Yes it is only a single win, but it does offer the possibility of a turnabout in results which is something to work on against Huddersfield next week. For me, there was enough concentration, work rate and intensity on which a revival is based. That will do for me! OTBC!
It wasn't the best performance but it got us all three points and there's no such thing as an easy away game. Gives us confidence going into our game at CR OTBC
an important win, but absolutely dire performance, and dreadful match, it's not often I wish for a game to be over, but yesterday sitting in the freezing cold was one of them, it was fecking boring- players hoofed the ball away, again no movement up front, but credit to jermome and hooper for running their arses off after countless aimless balls forward.
Didn´t see any of it Longsight, so can´t comment, but I´ll take your word for it, but irrespective of that, a win was absolutely necessary yesterday, how we played was never going to be quite as important.
I agree that the win was the most critical aspect- just that the performance was worse than against Reading. I've had the misfortune to take my family visiting from Australia to two terrible matches
Hi skald bor, your first two lines summed it succinctly. A goal up, we gave up the gung ho approach and concentrated on defence, our midfield hardly venturing into our opponents half and leaving our forwards to fend more for themselves. Ruddy was definitely the more active of the two keepers, Wigan's just dealing with back passes. Ruddy came in for a lot of criticism last week. Well he certainly earnt the team's winning bonus this week. NA finally got the message that there is a better chance of winning by defending a lead, first time he has opted for this tactic. Hope he doesn't throw this win away by reverting to an all out attack when we renew acquaintance with Holty and Butterfield. Our team lacks pace in the main, one of the reasons we have suffered from fast counter attacks, you play to bolster your weakness so hopefully NA will keep to this winning formula. There is hope that we can retrieve our earlier form now that the team is showing more confidence. Regards to Rex.
Yes, that I do see is unfortunate and NORKIE, I´m guessing he´ll go back to all out attack again next week as we´re at home, which is okay, just as long as he remembers to defend as well, especially with someone like Holty around.
