Hi All. Whether you agree with 20 million for Jordan Henderson or not (personally I think it's madness but I suppose that's the way it is these days), it would appear to demonstrate that our owners are prepared to put their money where their mouths are. I'm not going to ask you who we should bring in, because it's already been don to death. However, I'd be interested to get your views on how much more is in the kitty for Kenny and Commoli for the acquisition of new talent. By the way, I reckon the boys and girls over at CERN are delaying the re-start of the Large Hadron Collider until just before the start of the new season, co-inciding with our drive towards new glory. THE FUTURE IS RED!!!!!!
Good article. Nobody knows how much is in the kitty except Kenny, the owners and DC. So there is little or no point speculating, but instead..enjoying the summer and watching what happens. I don't think for one minute that this is the end of the transfer business, far from it. I do believe that its going to be a more enjoyable summer than last summer and the last few summers were. Liverpool are finally flexing their muscles, and next season lets see how our competitors cope with a really strong Liverpool.
If we factor in Kenny reinvesting everything from player sales: Jones = 2.4m, Konchesky = 2.0m, Aurelio = 3.5m, (Getting on a bit now, far too injury prone) J.Cole = 3.9m, (He certainly looks like he wants to move) Jovanovic = 2.0m, (Already transfer listed) Ngog = 4.5m, (high wages, and for his own sake I'd like him to get games elsewhere) Poulsen = 2.5m, Darby = Free, Aquilani = 15m, (Probably AC Milan/Other Italian club) Degen = Free, El Zhar = Free, Insua = 3.0m, (Don't think he'll want to return) These are all the players that are likely (I'm predicting, judging on FSG's comments on our wage bill) to go in order to free up wages and space. Total from transfers = £38.8m That's £40m free to invest right back into the squad; so considering FSG have already paid the £20m for Henderson, then £40m to reinvest on a LB and LW (only 2 vital areas in my opinion) then that's class players for those 2 positions easy. All in all, I'd expect to see at least another £40m spent in this summer window; I predict we'll spend quite a bit more.
Excellent comment. Not only that,It also frees up space for youngsters that are young and hungry enough to make the break-through. The squad is broken into three areas. Home-grown players. We have more or less filled our quota.Andy Carroll replaced Konchesky in January.Henderson is an addition. It means we're over our quota. Overseas players. If Ngog is gone to Sunderland,we'll actually have two free spaces. As Babel and Torres were replaced by just one...Suarez. Then there is the players that are under 21..A club can use as many of these players as they wish.
to me its NOT how much we have to spend, its identifing the right targets, its not about a shopping list full of exotic european players.
I agree. Its also about positions.I believe that Kenny has identified this.He won't sign a player that doesn't fill a position that needs strengthening, just because he's a good player.Anyone that does that is buying players like a woman does shopping.Kenny doesn't do that and has never done that. Kenny will look into every factor before considering a target. That much is 100% certain.
Usually though, the money correlates to the worth of the player. If we want top quality players to strengthen the team then we'll have to pay a pretty sum for them, not to mention the fact we're due a transfer of spending after the last 2 summers.
Its been longer than that mate. We've not had a positive net spend since January 2008. In fact and this is including the Jordan Henderson deal.(I'm dealing in cash only). We're still £25 million in the black when it comes to net spending since January 2009. Now thats £115 million less than Spurs and over £200 million less than Man City.
I read on The Telegraph (I think... possibly the independant) website, (I can't remember) that they were exptecting Liverpool to spend £75m this summer on an overhaul of our squad. now I know the papers are not right on anything these days but if they are speculating that then it is a completley different story to that of last year when we were "looking forward" to a Torres/Carlton Cole partnership and the prospect trying to attain the services of Zoltan Gera
I think this is the article Bozz may be on about - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...guide-to-the-big-money-moves-this-summer.html
Bozz. I firmly believe that this summer will be one unlike the previous summers because it will be one off additions instead of replacements. The last few summers saw too many replacements and not enough additions. It was in effect nullifying,we never seemed to strengthen.Rafa had the problem of improving the team by weakening the squad as a whole. At one stage he had to sell 4 players to sign one player. I don't believe that this is the case now.I also remember last summer and there was a lot of talk about the signing of Paul Scharner as a utility player on a very small fee.Thats in reference to the earlier comment about Zoltan Gera.Things have certainly changed...for the better.
I'm sure I read somewhere that aside from what we have in the black there is a credit facility for player transfers of £40m which FSG kept on when they brought the club for emergancies. FSG also kept the credit account for the new stadium open as well. (I think we're still making payments on the the stadium account for the work H+G got HKS to do RE stadium designs
Anyone reckon some will get the chance,id love stirling tobe unleshed and take the prem by storm, just imagine chelsea ,manure spending mega bucks on big time charlies only to see young raheem to take all the lime light. asking a bit to much but i can dream. my tips for players comming through next season flano coady poss robinson kelly raheem stirling ......people i no reckon he,s small but strong as an ox
Not being funny but d'you really think your going to sell a dozen squad players and replace them with 2 or 3. You struggled when you had a few injuries last year with the squad you had. You can't realistically make it any smaller. But what do i know?!?!
We struggled because Rafa refused to use the right players; You saw the strength of our squad at the end of this year, we had 5 first team players missing at one point and we still did very well. Every single player on that list bar Joe Cole and Aurelio (who got a few games each) haven't played for Kenny this year. 6 of them have been on loan. The rest have either rotted in the reserves or sat on the bench and not got a look in. Our academy is plenty good enough to bulk our squad out, and they won't be on anything like the wages these guys are on.
Fair enough. Though I know all to well what can happen if you trim your squad and them rely on youth to bulk your squad out...
These are the ones that are not part of Kenny's plans and are being shipped to make way for new additions that Kenny wants.Chelsea have a 25 man squad that only includes 18 players.
