It seems that recently our regular rivalry with Leeds has been usurped by Leicester City. This has obviously been inflamed by the Pearson and Stewart affairs as well as our natural human urge to âbully the spoilt kidâ. However I would like to send a heart-felt plea that we do not forget the Wazzacks from the West. They have done nothing to deserve this lull in hostilities. On the contrary, their team are currently doing their upmost to look pathetic in a brazenly flirtatious attempt to attract our attention. The moment we offer them a little comforting abuse they will of course throw it back in our faces, proclaiming that their true rivals are Man United. Donât listen, itâs just an obvious attempt to provoke our jealousy by playing hard to get while secretly craving the submissive state they can only fully achieve after a good mauling by The Tigers. So letâs turn our heads away from the gaudy grinning tart artificially pumped up by cosmetic surgery and remember the homely fat lass who has always been there for us when we need someone to laugh at. Disclaimer; The writer wishes to distance himself from any accusations of sexism, sado-masochism, bullying, Leicesterism and Leedsism that may be falsely interpreted from the above comments.
I don't see us having a rivalry with either of those teams. Leeds don't care about us and it's only the Leicester fans on here that are irritating. We've not got the history to say we're actual rivals. For me a rivalry consists of two teams that either compete against either other for honours ie Liverpool v Man Utd, Barca v Real or are two teams from the same city ie Rangers v Celtic. There have been hostilities on here between us and Leicester fans, but i think it'll blow over once all this transfer talk has died down, or once the last match between the two has passed, or even after one of us has gone up (fingers crossed it's HCAFC).
This will be a relatively temporary thing I think. Once this transfer window is over, and when Leicester a) fail to make the play -offs, b) start next season badly and c) sack NP as a result, this will all be forgotten about
Evidently our real rivals are the smoggie ****s. I've lived in Leeds for half a year and haven't met any Leeds fans who cared about us before they met me. Now they hate us, but unless I go round to every Leeds season ticket holders house they'll never be our "rivals". Please concentrate on hating the ****s on Teeside.
The old rival chestnut surfaces again. We are isolated from any real rivals due to our league status and geographical position. Nearest is Donny, but not a rival are they? Not since the Peter Taylor days when we were fighting for promotion with them.
I measure rivalry on this forum from the direction we get most irritation and that has mostly been the West and only recently the Middle East. Grimsby and Scunthorpe may have once been rivals but now they are little more than embarrassing memories from our youth and I'm afraid the Middlesbrough rivalry only exists in your mind Percy.
We're too isolated to have an intense rivalry with anyone on the scale of Arsenal Spurs, Manchester and Merseyside derbys etc but the yorkshire derbys normally drum up a good atmosphere when they come round. Playing Leeds more often over the last 5 years has probably also increased a rivalry with them from what it was 10/15 years ago. The games at the Sheffield clubs have created a better atmosphere and games than the games against TWS if I'm honest.
NO genuine rivals - no matter how much some of you want there to be. No one really gives a monkey about us as they all have someone else to worry about - why does it all bother you so much?
Superb post Craig. What Gollacio fails to understand it seems, is the reason that we all hate L***ds.So for his benefit i post this. Many moons ago when we were in the bottom div and struggling to survive,a few of us felt just a little bit pissed off seeing white shirts all over the streets of Hull. It seemed more coaches were leaving for L**ds on saturdays than we had fans turning up at BP. To cut a long story short,i believe it is this that some of us maybe (i did) feel a tad bitter about. We dreamed of the day the worm would turn. Now it has and were having our joyous last laugh. Please Gollacio, try not to talk too much about TWS history, they spout enough about that themselves, and we could (would) have had a similar,if not better histoty of our own. Sorry Golly, your'e a top poster mate,so no offence to you at all. Again, nice one Craig
I missed off the part about not liking Hull Whites, which i should have put on and whenever this subject comes up i usually type it. What i wil say is that's not the club itself though, is it? That's the vermin who latched onto their past successes when we were dreadful. I agree that there's some aggro between us and them lot, but their fans from other areas don't give a toss about us. And yes i don't like them, hence me calling them vermin/ weeds/ TWS blah blah blah. Tar for the compliment.
Thanks KK and Alicante. I actually prefer the banter with Leeds more than the pretentious Leicester upstarts and although we've had a rubbish Christmas we can still have a laugh at our neighbours who still live in the 70s.
I never understand this rivalry thing. We will never have a City rival like the Merseyside, North London or Manchester derbies so in that sense we are rival-less. However, we can still loathe TWS and the ****ers at Leicester regardless of relative location or history (FFS everyone in football is far too obsessed with history, it means bugger all) I dislike those teams for different reasons but I would argue more legitimate reasons than a team just being close. I actually find that quite gay. I find it gay that Arsenal fans hate Tottenham. What is there to hate about Tottenham? The other way around I can understand because of the way they played 5 or 6 years ago and how much time all their French players would spend diving around. But hating a team just because you're told to is just weird to me.
I bet you wouldn't be saying this if ours was more prestigious. At the end of the day we have some history, as does every club, but it's just not steeped in glory down the years. I can agree on the fact we all dislike Hull Whites (just for their arrogant manner and how part time they are) but i don't dislike someone whose from that City and supports LUFC. That's until something happens to kick start the rivalry, i suppose. And i should have wrote that.
Leicester are just a flash in pan. In a couple of years they will be back where they belong (in league 1) with the lady boys nowhere to be seen. For me it has to be Scunny/Grimsby/Leeds.
Scunny and Grimsby are close, but I see nothing to dislike about them. Leicester with the Pearson thing and their obsession with us and our board are bloody irritating, and Leeds just always seem like bad guys to me. They always have a dirty team and always play in this same way which they call attacking football (which it is I suppose) but it's also excessively physical. They are the tangible reasons for which I don't like those clubs, I can't see why someone should dislike clubs just for being near us though. EDIT: The contribution of rovertiger to this thread has reminded me of something else about rivalries. People wanting a proper 'rival', don't you think the KR and FC rivalry is reaaaally sad? They're always using Sportstalk as a vehicle to host text-wars calling each other dobins and girly birds. It's so gay it's unreal. That's what we could sound like if we had a 'rival'. If we did have one I'd much rather we took the Nottingham approach and just all got along, after all they'd be representing our fine City. Unless there was some good reason t o hate them, why should we?
