Now then.. What are the views of you lot on the progress of our team since the Keane revolution began some 8 years ago? the climb from obscurity (bottom three) to win the Championship and then the big fart of premiership reality and managers that for some reason seem to hit a brick wall managing us.. Transfers, Misplaced loyalty to average players, Ellis's policies, crap managerial decisions on the pitch, fickle fans or whatever? I personally think the rot kicked in about 5 seasons ago that has probably killed the reputations of a good few people who I've always admired who got caught short. Just my opinion btw.. Have a great weekend lads, 3 at Fulham tomorrow would be good.. Ha'waaaaaaay the laaaaaaads..
have a great weekend yourself Joe, MY VIEW IS I WAS FLYING HIGH WITH BRUCES GYAN and Bent, then the ****ers pulled the rug out from under us, i really thought this time at last we are going somewhere. Now with Poyet the feelings back and i genuinely believe we are on the up as long as we keep Gus
I honestly think we are turning a corner under the guidance of Gus, having 'bottomed out' under PDC who set out a number of home truths and was a good cataylst to stop the rot. I never wanted Bruce, nor MON, although i was very supportive of the, Both got off to flying starts which covered up everything else that was wrong with our set up. now finally, i hope, we are moving surely albeit slowly in the right direction.
On the pitch: All was going well. Bruce had a good thing going then lost the plot and dismantled a progressive mid table squad(Admittedly the out goings were out of his hands) and replaced them with inadequate players. We've been playing catch up ever since and still have the baulk of them still at the club on wages that don't represent their capabilities. Off the Pitch: Sorry Neil, love you to bits but financially the best thing to happen was you stepping down as chairman as some of the contracts given out and the money sanctioned for certain players were shocking. Since Ellis took over as chairman he's managed to balance the books even with all those bad signings still in the squad but it's cost us top players like Mig and Sess. The end of this season will represent a dawning of a new era, no matter what league we're in as most of the bad business we've done in recent years will be off the books and no longer dragging us down. The wage list is going to shrink massively which will allow us to start moving forward both on and off the pitch.
Slightly longer and further to the left, dare i say and my first drink for a week is going down nicely..... Hope you're all good tonight Joe.
I loved everything about Roy, that season (i thought we were indestructable) and the way he shook us up. Sadly, doing that with premier players was beyond his management skills, and we were simply less of an attractive option/big risk as a result...
Spot on my man & you enjoy. Having my 1st beer since new years day. Can't go ott like, got Lollie to look after tomorrow, pad changes, oh **** you don't want to know.. Be good mate
Great post Joe. I kind of feel the job Roy Keane done, goes unnoticed. He came in and dragged us up to the Premiership after we lost the first 4 or 5 games. He was responsible for building the stature of the club by bringing a lot of quality Premiership players, that we have never managed to do beforehand. Things went sour with Keane and when he went, it was the right call. Like PDC, I think his ego was his biggest downfall. Bruce come in and done a great job building on what Keane had left and he also bought a lot of quality to do that. Mignolet, Gyan, Bent, Zenden, Wes. We were having our best days since Reidy and the pinnacle of our success was a 0-3 win at Chelsea. We looked like we were going to kick on and cement us into a top half team but for whatever reason our better players wanted away, Bruce couldn't replace them and completely imploded, he also went at the right time. MON, flattered to deceive and wasted plenty of money doing so. He was the supporters choice and apart from his first few games when we were on a run, he was a failure and we seen some of the worst football we had seen in many years. PDC, nutcase who kept us up. His ego needs taking down a peg or two before he's ready to manage at that level. Not much else to say as he only lasted about 12 games. Poyet, finally a manager I have absolute faith in, for the first time I'm seeing one of our managers take us off in another direction with tactics that we have been shouting for and it's great watching it put into practice and watching us go forward as a club and also the supporters seem to see what he's doing and prepared to give him proper time, even if we go down. I'm convinced Gus is the real deal and we must give him our full support as I can really see happy times once again at the SOL.
We have spent big money but not brought much quality in, transfers 1st is where we have fell down. Cant say Short hasn't backed us 100%. Remember the hand Bob Murray dealt Big Mick when we got promoted, think the best lad we got then was Nyron ! FFS John Stead !
Gus has got us playing a different brand of football that has ever been seen up here. Some of the players are struggling to adjust to it, but I definitely have high hopes that the team will thrive under him if given the time. Out of our past managers in recent years, I thought Bruce was very unlucky, with key players leaving at crucial times..
And the same to you and yours. I have seen you talking about your better half. I take my hat off to you, I really do mate
