I hope you all will join me in offering a well deserved round of applause to all the medical staff who worked so very hard to aid Fabrice Muamba in his recovery from the cardiac arrest he received at the Lane earlier this year. This team will shortly be receiving an award at the BBC's 999 award show on BBC1 in about 15 minutes time. The team includes our club doctor, Dr Mughal, our Head of Medical Services, Wayne Diesel and our Head Physio, Geoff Scott (he's the ginger haired fella you see treat our players on the pitch). They are joined by members of the Bolton medical staff and of course a cardiologist who ran onto the pitch from the east stand to help save Fabrice. Gentlemen we salute you all. I am sure we were all sorry to hear of Fabrice's retirement from the game yesterday, but most importantly, he is still with us and long may that continue.
He was officially dead for 78 mins. The crucial part of that time was when he was lying on the Lane's turf being worked on by our club's medical staff. When we have Bale being paid £100k a week and the paramedic who kept him alive being paid around £60k a year, perhaps it's time for some of us to look less glassy-eyed towards some of our supposed sporting "heroes" and support those who actually make a real difference in our lives.
Brilliant work. I'm glad they're being recognized for it. I hope they're extremely proud of what they've done. They certainly should be.
It's just finished, great to see and hear from them all and Muamba being able to come out and present them with the award too was excellent.
They have my total respect and admiration....well done to them. Sorry for FM though, hope he does well.
He seems to be coping, I'm sure there is a role for him in football somewhere. Fact is he's alive and that is due to some very dedicated and competent professionals.
