After the City - Chelsea result we now have the best defensive record in the league. <diva>

So much for the wummery we received for those pre season friendlies. <ok>

as long as agger stays fit i think we are solid there, enrique has been brilliant, johnson seems more responsible defensively than previously and skrtle seems assured alongside agger. As always reina has been top, a couple of mistakes but they happen to everyone

Awesome stat that is! The real positive for me is that at the same time as being tight at the back we are creating bags of chances at the other end. I agree on Agger if he could stay fit for a full(ish) season then no question he would be a player you would class as world class, joining Reina, Lucas and Suarez! Can't really say the same on Gerrard until he starts playing again but I have to say the more I think about this Liverpool side the more positives I keep finding!!!!

Now all we need to do is convert our chances in attack and we might be able to do a bit more then win a pot out two this season

its good, the only goals we've conceeded are from errors, norwich was reina's issue for example.. fulham was too.... no side has cut us apart except for spurs who started well for 10mins and then adam got sent off...

Defensively decent, attacking threat from CBs has been non existant at set pieces though... its never a perfect scenario is it?

Not enough of our players get in the box, if Suarez goes wide as he sometimes does, you can have 0 or 1 man in the box

Also I noticed from crosses in 2 the box both QPR and us had less than 20% success rate, if we are gonna cross in the box, its gotta be better delivery

But havin men in the box, is the main one. This is why Maxi gets goals, he could have had 4 on saturday, how many times does Downing get in the positions Maxi gets in2,rarely. The front 5 should alll be sprinting to get in there, not jogging

This is one of the main issues for me right now and mentioned it in a different thread, Maxi brings what Gerrard and Meireles did which is arrive late in to the box. This is exactly what Meireles did last night against Man City and for me is exactly why Maxi could be really important for us because right until Gerrard gets back I don't see anyone else in the squad who play like this.

agree with daydodoe..... what i felt benayuon's main asset was related exactly to getting in on the far post like he should. maxi makes very good runs.

What drives me mad about dirk kuyt playing right wing and indeed stuart downing is that they simply don't do this.... there is a REASON WHY downing has only had a few (if spectacular) shots on target this year, he's not getting in at the far post.

for me if dirk plays right he goes wandering, he's rarely in there then at the far post, i've never yet seen downing get in there.

    so

    1. get carroll if playing to stay in and around the box occupying CBs.
    2. get the wingers to support their full backs by staying wide (its an out ball for one, second it creates over laps, it gvies them the task of beating a man and corssing.)
    3. when the ball is on the opposite wing the guy who is supposedly a winger shold not be hogging the middle of the pitch, he should be aiming to be in at the far post on the end of things.

I think you guys are dead right here, flooding the box with players is what we need to do, a DM can stay back and full backs are supposed to be quick enough to get back so its not like its a huge risk to get a late running CM plus the opposite winger plus two forwards i nthere... thats 4 players to our usual 1-2.

Maxi is very intelligent with his runs and positioning..... drik can be but usually his runs are that of a forward not a winger so half the time he's way off where he needs to be on the far stick.

Adam is starting to do it more, but I thought at Blackpool his surging runs forward were dangerous and it looks as he is starting to get back at that. Would like to see Bellamy and maxi given a proper run this month, they both have the vision to make those cleer runs and get into areas to score.

Rafa used to talk about the edge of the D type player.... and those being more dangerous and getting a better return than wingers which is fine if you go buy silva, or mata etc... when you can't/ didn't then you have to play the winger.... in the end gerrard in his prime was sort of that on the d type player with torres but i think we need to really see why some sides like those in the top 3 socre lots of goals and why we do not.... we are putting plaenty of shots in but are they a different type of strike?

are we shooting further out, are we just unlucky?

To illustrate just how Maxi is good at running
When Adam was busy hustling Mikel in the Chelsea game, Maxi was close to the middle of the field. He started his run and did not stop by the time Bellamy was receiving his return pass from Suarez, Maxi had already arrived unmarked. Those are the kind of players we need in our attacking lineup.

We do have the best defensive record in the premier league.........Unfortunately, we have scored less goals than the two bottom teams......Which really sucks!!!

I wouldnt be surprised if we hadnt created more chances than most aswell. i can only think that Man City would be above us i that department....

We probably have a 1% conversion rate!!!!!! Thats is nearly as bad bad as Wayne Rooneys chat up line success prior to becoming a pro footballer.....

We are playing fantastic football and the goals will come......please please let them come!!!!

Kenny came out the other day and said the same, once we tonk someone they should start flowing in. he also played down buying some in january although I still think we should.

well the bos is backing his men so he's got to do that but i think a forward will turn up in jan.

suarez misses a LOT cos he tries things, thats ok at times but we just need to make sure the players like carroll get more on target, a lot more... then the other guys like maxi, bellamy, kuyt and downing need to get to that back stick.

Unfortunately Lucas had a lot to do with the best defence stat. We may need to up the goal scoring without him.

Agreed <ok> was nice to chalk up another clean sheet against QPR but they didn't exactly get at us. We will have far sterner tests in the coming fixtures so will be interesting to see if we can plug that Lucas sized gap.

Also agree with all the Maxi comments...we look a better attacking unit when he starts.

Could'nt understand Kenny putting Maxi on the bench from the beginning of the season when he finished last season on fire, hopefully Maxi's good form will continue.

I know I thought that too. I thought Maxi probably showed the best understanding with Suarez at the back end of the season as well <ok> sometimes players just click and hopefully he'll get a run of games now.

Either Maxi or Bellamy should start up front with Suarez for most games imo.
