Let's try and get a positive from our defeat at Southampton. We were second best, but we only lost three points, like Burnley, who were at home!A certain referee booked Lee again that put him in a position that he had to be too careful with his challenges, and then the referee did not award us a certain penalty when the score was only 2-0.A converted penalty would have made the score 2-1,and two minutes later, the score was 3-0!What a game-changer!At least the lads have a home-game to come at the week-end...against a team who couldn't beat Hull at home.

    Good post Calm.

We had a shocking result but this isn't going to happen every week.

Often, after a hammering a team will get a draw next result and that would suit me.

Didn't Arsenal concede 8 last season but they aren't a bad team. Neither are we.

I remember the West Ham 0-8, embarrassing but we got over it.

Keep the faith lads. Gus is the right man to sort this out.

I also like the feeling of excitement/anticipation when the team actually owes you a performance going forward. Shame it takes an 8-0 to feel like that.

As a Saints fan who was at the game yesterday, strangely enough i dont think that Sunderland have too much to worry about. Poyet would be better off putting this one down to history as one of those things, a freakish result. Your defence did let you down in last half hour or so, but they will know that, they wont be feeling too great with them selves atm but will get over it. Personally i reckon that Sunderland will steady down and give a good account of themselves for the remainder of this season - just hope that you have another off day when we visit Wearside on 2nd May !

By my reckoning you only lost 6-2 and were denied a blatant penalty.

I really want Soton to have an awesome season and break into the top top reaches of the league for a couple of reasons.

    1. To not make the scoreline look that unusual.
    2. To act a two fingered gesture to the clubs who think chucking millions at lesser teams for their 'star players'

Way I see it, we maybe needed a bit of a thrashing to bring home the reality that we are still way short of where we need to be.

Some of the players that bottled it yesterday are the very same ones that disappeared for large parts of last season.
