Hi all, Two years ago I, along with nearly 40 of my 6th Form students and fellow teachers, ran the Newport Half Marathon to raise money for Velindre Cancer Centre. For those of you who are not aware of Velindre, they basically look after every cancer sufferer and their families in the South Wales region, both pre and post treatment. Having had more friends and family, as well as a student of ours, needing to use Velindre's services since the last half marathon, we have decided to run as a school again. This time we have a team of just over 50 running and we are aiming to raise £10,000. I shared a similar message to this last time and a few kind individuals generously gave me a few pounds, so I was hoping I can appeal to your charitable sides again. The Half Marathon takes place on Mother's Day (next Sunday) and anything you could give would be greatly appreciated. Please find below our justgiving page and an article that has been published in our local newspaper. www.justgiving.com/rougemontcharity or alternatively text RMNT50 followed by £1, £2, £3, £4, £5, or £10 to 70070 http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/ne...ewport_school_get_set_for_city_half_marathon/ If you do not want to give anything, I would just like to thank you for your time in reading this message. Thanks again, Andy
Good lad. I like supporting local charities that have a very clear focus. Trust you'll be running in a Saints shirt!
Haha! I wish I was...i'll be sporting a beautiful fluorescent green Velindre shirt. The team will definitely stand out from the crowd!
Thanks again to everyone who donated! I had my last training run yesterday, so I am as ready as I'll ever be!
That text option is a stroke of genius. So easy and painless! Good luck, mate. You deserve the sun to shine on you. Please write a little report afterwards as I'm sure we'd love to know how much you raise.
Thank you, I'll make sure I let you all know how I do! At the moment, the forecast is for sunny spells and about 3 degrees, which would be ideal. We broke through the £2500 barrier yesterday and have a non-uniform day today which will give us another £1000 or so. Also a very generous parent has offered £25 for every student who completes the race, which is a potential £900 too, so we will start the race with around £4500 already banked, then it is just a case of how much we have raised offline through normal sponsor forms...hopefully that will take us past the £10,000 barrier. I'll let you all know when I have counted all the money up. Thanks again, Andy
We had a very special £1000 donation from a student's mum whose father has recently passed away because of cancer! Not ashamed to say that a few tears were shed when the boy handed me a cheque saying 'my mum wanted you to have this...my dad was at Velindre' So again, a massive thank you to anyone on here who has sponsored me...together we are making a huge difference to many people's lives!
I'm back home now after making it around the course in 2:00.07...7 frustrating seconds short of being sub 2 hours, but still easily faster than I have ever run before! All of our team finished the race, with the fastest student finishing in an amazing 10th position overall, with an amazing time of 1:18 and the last coming home in a very respectable 3:24...safe to say I am an incredibly proud Head of Year right now! Thank you to all of the not606 family who sponsored me. When we finished the race, we had already raised just short of £6000, and with all of our offline sponsorship, we should smash the £10,000 target. I'll let you know when I have a final total, but I wanted to give you an update and show my appreciation
