I will take any positives Thai and I will add this story to the pile. The Holt story last week was another feelgood piece (I'd have only come here because of Adams etc.) and if we can add to the squad and not lose one or two of our crown jewels then it all helps. The acid test though is what we actually do in August and where we are come next May. One word of caution though, if all goes swimmingly like The Saints last year, look what can happen, They are being decimated!!
Makes you wonder if it actually worth it, getting up to the PL only to get 'raped' if you do okay. I do have a degree of sympathy for the Saints fans, seeing the 'lynch pins' of the squad moving on, but that is what has happened for many years and will keep on happening.
Absolutely but it means that there is a very strong glass ceiling and it is increasingly difficult to break through. In my view, it is slowly killing the game as the true competition is not here any more. You look at the sort of business that the top six are doing and you think that there are 12 potential hammerings on the cards! The PL is about survival and fear and the enjoyment for the fans is not there anymore. All very depressing!
Sadly, for the 'have nots' which includes Saints, Norwich, everyone bar the top six maybe, that is a harsh fact of life. Look at us the season after we finished an unlikely third in 1993/4 - Sutton - gone, Fox - gone and that was before we had billionaires and oligarchs pumping untold millions into their plaything clubs
Which is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to the forthcoming season - at least we should be capable of beating most teams and not wondering how many goals the opposition's star strikers are going to score!!!
This story was copied almost word for word from Mike Bailey's version 6 hours earlier. Who says true journalism has died when stories live on time and time again!
