I'm sure today will be a continuance of Bruce out and I can understand that and cant defend him but having watched the game again on football first I'm still not sure how we lost, well I am but. We are all hurting right now and emotions are running high but I found the fat Geordie chants yesterday an embarrassment and I found some of the stuff on here a turn off. Looking at the team we have the problem we have had all season, a lack of strikers and we can blame who we like the fact, IMO still remains that's it a lack of strikers. Our defence is still a good one and our midfield is fine providing we play the right players in the right positions, I know we don't and yes we can blame Bruce but championship players, come on. I'm no longer talking about Bruce in or out, we all know that's it no longer a question of if, its a matter of when, for me, right or wrong I think it will be after the Blackburn game with Short getting things set up for a quick replacement ready for the January window, just my hunch. I for one don't hate all Geordie's because of our predicament. I don't hate or devalue our players, they need an outlet because we nearly won yesterday, and in other games, with midfielder's up front, stick a proper striker there and we will win. I don't blame our Newcastle visitors for taking the piss, we would, but I don't take any notice of their views in the main either, I watch our games, they don't. I have no doubt this will be a wasted plea but lets keep things in perspective, we are in trouble and need a change, we don't however need to dismiss all the good things in our squad. To me the January business is as vital as the managers position, it will be interesting to see what Short does, that will tell me how serious he is about taking us forward.
Do most of you think it's really all down to Bruce though? I agree fully that he makes some really insane decisions, and seems obsessed with playing 451 even at home. But he has been repeating all season that you aren't taking your chances, and from what I have seen that seems sort of true. Your lads are creating plenty of opportunitys to score but just aren't managing to do it. I'm especially thinking of Bardsley skying a real chance in yesterday's game. I'm really not on the wind up here, do you not think it's way too harsh to give Bruce all of the flack when your team just isn't really up to scratch either?
Alright Syd.. Standby for another day of more of the same.. Read all the threads, most are pretty much the same with a common theme, to be expected really. Mags have been pretty tame really, but their team did get a good result yesterday, so they're happy..so well done to them.. ES will be having a reflection on events, so all anyone can do is await his announcment, be it this week or in the future.
Bruce has refused point blank to address the left side of the team for 3 seasons now that is down to him. I can't blame him for Bent or Gyan dropping him in it but, at the same time I can't support him for not replacing Bent when we had the chance to we all knew Gyan was never a prolific goal scorer. Have a look at his team selections over the past couple of months playing 4 5 1 at home to 2 of the worst away teams in the PL, 4 6 0 away to a Championship side (just up from League 1) in the cup. Then have a look at his subs, eventually putting strikers on with 3 or 5 minutes to go not only demoralises the players but, gets the crowds collective backs right up. This isn't just a this season thing mate this has been going on for over a year now any other team would have got rid after 6 months. One good point is that Bruce has brought in cash which I think is the only thing that is keeping him sweet with Ellis Short. Who in my opinion is just another American owner who doesn't understand the game and, is just milking us dry before selling up.
After losing Bent, there was no back up plan. We even talked of getting Ricardo Fuller when we should have grabbed someone like Papa Dembe Cisse. I was far from convinced by Asamoah Gyan after watching my second favourite team in the World Cup. He wasn't the right man for Bent to partner and he loved playing with Big Kenny in a partnership that had the right chemistry, also the buying of Gyan had all the hallmark of a last minute panic buy - as it turned out A$amoah didn't have the right attitude at all, neither did he set this league alight and he certainly wasn't a 20+ goalscorer. At the time when we bought Gyan the concern was - 'what happens if Bent gets injured?' Then come the Summer our marquee signing turns out to be an inexperienced Championship player and we scramble to get Nicklas Bendtner, who turns out to be a workhorse, but he's no goal machine. Bruce says we are not scoring goals - well **** me Mr Mastermind - REALLY!?!? - He has had 3 transfer windows to get us more fire power in front of goal FAIL - FAIL and FAIL Mr Bruce After the team he selected yesterday, you think!? please log in to view this image - final straw, someone needs to break his kneecaps
No I dont just blame Bruce, I think the team is OK apart from the striker problem and I blame Short and Quinn but Bruce is the manager. There will be more of the same, I just find some of the OTT reaction to be bad.BTW, it wont be more of the same for me because I'm having the day off. I'm not dissagreeing but not sure of Shorts motives. And its that I find objectionable, if thats the tone then its not for me.
Syd can i ask you becuase i dont think you have stated your opinion on the matter assuming Bruce does go who whould you like to replace him
Can I just say on the striker front we had 2 strikers on the bench yesterday in young Noble and Ji if ever there was a time to blood them then yesterday was it. Noble's confidence must be sky high after the reserve game with the mags and IMO given the chances we had yesterday Ji would get goals and for that I do blame Bruce.
As I may have said elsewhere I am a proud Geordie and a Sunderland supporter. SB's ineptitude has got nothing to de with the club he supported as a youngster, if anyone I suspect he is a manure supporter. Yesterday I was at the match with my son and a couple of friends (for which I paid top dollar) and sat away fro my usual seat frankly I was embarrassed by our performance. The general opinion, was the gooners have done well to offload Bendtner. Rico was OK, their keeper had a good game and our finishing was woeful. Can anybody explain taking MacBardo off, moving Colback to LB, Bardsley is more likely to score that Colback. We also started with two defensive CM a big mistake, and since Bendtner was anywhere but in a centre forward position we actually did not have any forwards in a striking position for most of the match. I take it that Ji and Noble must be utter tosh in training as they cannot get a start, this means shot shy Bendtner is the only so called striker we have atm on the pitch, Champions league he is having a laugh.
OK, we have a lack of QUALITY strikers. BUT. A good player that he is, WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY is Bendnter always on the wing or far to deep. I didn't once notice SB tell him to get up top and STAY up top. AND as stated if the prick thinks Richardson is more of a striker than an er..........(let me think about this so I get the right word)........yes that it, a STRIKER, then we are up **** creek without a paddle and plenty of ****.
Deaf ears mate. The lad knocks in a derby hat trick and a consolation goal v Liverpool and his reward was 3 mins t Fulham and then to be dropped completely yesterday from the squad. If a book called how not to be a football manager is ever written, Bruce will have a chapter all on his own. Hapless, clueless and pathetic.
