My Dad emailed this blog at work today with the words "I was there". Enjoy people! Couldn't fit the article in I'm afraid, was too long. http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/westhamunited/id/846?cc=5739
Thanks Sgt. Re THAT penalty save, John Ritchie said that it was the only time he wanted to kiss a man in the lips!! Didn't go to the semi's but made the final.
That penalty save was the most ridiculous save I've ever seen. Fully agree with Banksy that it was much better than the Pele save. Hurst absolutely leathered that ball and Banks started to go the other way if memory serves. Admittedly it's been a while since I saw it.
I was there too, Sgt, on that cold and wet Manchester night. The article seems biased towards the Hammers but it looks as if it was written by a West Ham fan. A great night in what was an epic semi-final. I saw the first game at Stoke which was won by a Geoff Hurst penalty I think. Then Stoke did the impossible and won the second leg at Upton Park, a goal by John Ritchie and who will ever forget Banksies last minute penalty save. Then on to Huddersfield for a 0-0 draw (I was there also) before the 3-2 win at Old Trafford. Wonderful times.
What a night that was I remember is so well Sgt thanks for posting it! It hissed down, rain ran of the stand and we got soaked, after the game the coach left without us and we caught the train home from Manchester... WHAT a game that WAS! P.S. John Richie was a God, R.I.P. big guy.
