Is one still needed? Frimpong has impressed in pre-season, Song has established himself there recently. *BUT* I'm concerned. "But why??" I hear you cry, "they're both fine, talented, young footballers!!" My concern centres around just one word - ACON. Frimpong wants to play for Ghana, Song plays for Cameroon. Both teams could be involved come January, so both players could be leaving for a period. Who would fill in?! Diaby?? Wilshere?? There isn't anyone else. Perhaps signing Vertonghen would be the answer now? Or maybe Vermaelen or Kos or someone else will be used in this position come January? What reckons ye Gooneritos?
He can cover for Songpong during ACON, can cover the CB's (ahead of Squil) and also the LB position when inevitably Gibbs gets injured.
Cameroon are very unlikely to qualify for the ACN. Frimpong has not even made his debut for Ghana, and they have a decent number of CMs already. I have a feeling Arsene will go back for Jagielka when he gets the Cesc money, and use him as a DM if neccessary. There is also the possibilty of Djourou covering in emergencies.
Diaby may be strong but he is no DM. I think someone exceptional for that position should have been our priority this summer.
