This is a great little article...I love the bit where it says "Chelsea fans with loftier ambitions choose to hate Arsenal". It was written in Feb 2010 so post Abramovich.

Chelsea may have become the first London team to win the European Cup, and fair play to them...but they've a long way to go before they match our 13 league titles...and that is the true test of quality.

I'm sure Pool fans were thinking the same thing when they had 18 titles and had gone for a while without a league, thinking to themselves, oh Manunited have a long way to go before they match our 13 league title, which is a true test of quality. We are now 8 years without a league, and look no closer than ever, there's nothing out there to suppose we won't be going the next 2 seasons without a league making it 10 full years without a league.

I agree with you, things need to be done. In the meantime, I was just trying to be positive about our illustrious history.

If history was so important, why did so many people used to attend football matches in the 30s-50s?

It seems people are trying to turn "history" into a measurable, marketable commidity to cash in on, as if some calculation of trophies accumulated gives some sort of historical index.

WHat matters is now. I've been a Wneger supporter even through this last season, but he has to mount a challenge this season. I don't mind not winning the league so long as we put up a solid fight. I'd rather come 3rd with 84 points and 5 points behind teh winners than come 2nd with 75 points and 15 points behind teh champs.

This summer will be immense it terms of tranfer activity, and there is no way that anyone can buy the Wenger argumanet of players coming back from injury representing a significant strengthening of the squad.

This has always been how I feel about things. It depends on what argument I am having, sometimes I argue that we need to win trophies but, ultimately I would be happy with us being competitive - even if we didn't win anything.

I'm not supporting the status quo...indeed I'm a vociforous proponent of change...but this doesn't mean one should not be proud of past achievements...for crying out loud...
