Why do the mackems insist on calling us the skunks

As far as i'm aware skunks are actually reasonably friendly creatures. I once knew someone who had one as a pet (had the spray glands or whatever removed) and it seemed quite nice.

    Badgers on the other hand....
**** me get out of the way when they get angry http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hereford/worcs/3023369.stm. They spread TB aswell. Nasty little bastards.

Magpies aswell, the thieving little ****s. Apparently they're very intelligent though

At any rate this seems an ill though out nickname as i'd rather be associated with skunks than Badgers. Also while i'm on this kind of thing they appear to have missed the point with their "Agent Ashley" jokes. As far as i'm aware he doesn't have anything to do with them unlike our very own agents Bruce and Bramble

Because it's terribly funny for them to call us skunks, and of course in their minds it is extremely hurtful for us to hear.

Some Mackems aren't very bright. They even adopt a negative monicker for themselves.

Yeah them and their 'Agent Ashley', bless. Not got anything to do with Sunderland so makes no sense. But they enjoy it.

you also get some of them saying "scumcastle", which is a clear ripoff of our saying "scumderland" (which works because it rhymes)

I won't lie, it really pisses me off when people call us 'barcodes'. I have no idea why though.

Glad somebody else brought this up, I've always thought that made no sense but on the off chance there was some hugely obvious reason I was missing I never said anything out of cowardice.
Also I'd never heard any Sunderland fan call Newcastle fans skunks until I started reading 606.

Wasn't a big fan of Sid James, don't know why anybody would name a park after him.

I actually don't mind the barcodes monicker really
    - when I heard it years back I had a good chuckle.
Think it first appeared in a newspaper article too.
