So, the season is over and we have finished the definition of mid-table, 12th of 24. I found it interesting scanning through factomondo's thread 'Sum up our season in one word' and reading the various opinions on there. Some disappointed with a season in which seemingly nothing was achieved, and we lost our best player in January, others, like myself, optimistic about where we go from here. Were those disappointed hoping for us to bounce straight back up this year? The last two outings in the Premiership, 2012/13 and 2014/15, on both occasions we finished not just in the relegation zone, but rock bottom of the table. Yes we had that glorious day out in Wembley, but all we proved is that we weren't ready for the top flight (and don't get me wrong, Wembley was amazing, and I wouldn't swap it, but we were lucky that day). Yes I am sad to see us in the Championship still because we have been promised so much that hasn't been delivered, but I think there is actually more hope given a mediocre mid table finish, than if we somehow this year snatched a playoff place and fluked our way back up. However, the big question is what do we do from here. It seems we are in limbo land on the stadium, we have a decent squad with some good players and others who probably need to move on but I think the base is there to build something decent. Now do tell, am I just blinded by love for my club? Or am I right in that there is hope to be found in our current situation? And I'm interested to cage opinion on what you want to see happen between now and kick off next season to help the club move forward?
I suppose there is always hope. I'm hoping that we stuff Newcastle 5-0 next season when they get dropped and do Villa home and away as they plummet through the divisions. Not being too nasty but there is certainly more than a healthy dose of schadenfreude about watching the "massive" clubs lose all grip on reality meanwhile outsiders like Leicester bask in the glory. I hope that JFK is allowed to do his job and get QPR back to playing as a working unit rather than a bunch of self-centered individuals all out for themselves. A team full of 7/10's being consistent every week is better than one or two players being 9/10 every now and again. I hope we go up automatically next season but I would be satisfied with being hard to beat, not getting spanked, having the odd goal-fest, a decent cup run () and at least sniffing around the play-off positions. Up the R's!
Blind as bat at Midnight! I'm with you Mate and I think Ale being axed is actually a positive sign though gut wrenching too.
We may well have made a lot of progress in sorting the squad out, developing an ethos etc but there can be no denying that the season just finished was very dull. It's down to Lee Hoos if other invisible progress has been made in the way the club is run, hope so. Like Grove, getting near the play offs but playing decent football would be fine for me next season. At the moment I expect something very similar to this one, but let's see what the summer brings.
Yes I envisage a 10th place finish at best but when you look at the plight of Wigan, bolton, fools after relegation it's not so bad!
