Hello everybody as you can probably tell i'm new to the not 606 forum. I'm a 36 year old man originally from Lahore, Pakistan, but moved to sunderland at the tender age of 3. And supported Sunderland since the age of 10. I would like to ask everyone if you think we have a chance of getting into Europe this season? Thanks Shafiq.

Welcome Shafiq <ok> There's a long way to go until the end of the season, but IF we can maintain current form, we have a good chance of making top 6.

From a personal point of view, I would be happy with a mid table finish after the terrible first 3 months of the season we had to endure.;)

Europe in the league no chance, think we need 5th for Europe this season (then depends on the cups i think).

FA Cup though, why not, in a way I want Chelsea to get knocked out, another way I want to meet them in the Final, that way, even if we dont win it, we will get into Europe (If Chelsea finish top 4 anyway).

But still a long way to go yet, I just want to see what MON does in the close season, and how we aquit ourselves next year (if its anything like this we will be flying)

Hi Shafiq welcome to the crazy not606 family. I think Europe is very unlikely although not impossible.

I am not sure on the rules but in theory if Liverpool win the league cup and Spurs in the FA cup and both finish top 4 then as far as I know 6th and 7th in the league would be in the Europa league. So their is a chance although its a slim one.

I think its going to be the aim for next season.

If we keep winning games and the teams above keep dropping points then who knows??

A long shot but it's worth aiming for it!

I seem to have been saying this for years, a comfortable top half finish with no twitchy bum syndrome would do my nerves the world of good.
This season we have to keep pushing on mind and finish above the skunks. (As I have my money on us doing so. :p)
My prediction 7th place minimum. Anything else will be a bonus. :)

By the way welcome mate. <ok>

Hi Shafiq - nice to see you and well done on introducing yourself...

So as you originate from Pakistan are you a cricket fan too?? and are you following England or Pakistan?? (I find it interesting as I work with a South African who was brought up in this country and follows SA and an Indian who follows England as he was brought up over here!!) Am looking forward to seeing the test tomorrow (on TV unfortunately - Can't quite stretch to a holiday to Dubai at the moment - Can't quite stretch to a holiday to Crimdon Dene ATM!!

Hi Welcome, ( I presume you are not a mag wum in disguise?) Personally I only think there is a slim chance of Europe. Anyhow my own opinion of the 2nd class Euro competition is that it does not pay enough to cover the bigger squad required if EPL status is to be preserved

Agreed. Stupid competition, and should be revamped so that Champions League teams aren't rewarded for their failure by entering it at the later stages.

I hope Fergie plays our kids against Ajax and if we win, great for the kids confidence, if we lose, no biggie.

Stoke have been competing in it this year. Hardly has the glamour of a trip to the San Siro does it?
