A key decision goes against United - yet further proof of a massive sea-change

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Hoddle is a god, Nov 26, 2011.

  1. I've just seen a clip of the penalty decision given in Toons favour at OT today, and it was never a penalty. What's more, I can't believe the ref gave the penalty.

This is unheard of! A major decision going against United at OT! The world have gone insane, surely!

But isn't it the way of the world, that things only ever seem to go right for you when you are riding at the top of the crest of the wave? Look at us, for example. In seasons gone by we would have missed that penalty, as Ade did today, but we would not have got the luck of a rebound. Yes, fortune really does seem to favour the brave, but luck also seems to find greatest favour with those who have the greatest belief that they actually deserve it. And we have deserved every bit of luck that's gone our way this season.

    Long may it continue!

The world has been turned on its head- a referee dared to give a penalty at Old Trafford and stopped Utd from winning.

It was quite funny listening to Bacon Face moaning about it, I dont suppose he can remember what its like to be on the wrong end of an alleged dodgy decision. Ferguson is a bad loser.

Seems that this was a ref that Fergie couldn't manipulate this time.

Old Trafford's spell is lifting and the referees are free to blow the whistle as and when they want <laugh>

  10. I'd love it if they kept the Chavs, the Gooners and the Mickey Mousers out of the top 4. Absolutely love it!*

In discussions of the penalty award I've not seen one comment that actually reflects the rules as they are now. The reference to a tackle being a foul if the man is touched before the ball was removed from the Laws of the Game a few years back. The rules now say a tackle is a foul if its careless, reckless or with excessive force. Since the way Ferdinand made the tackle ensured that his trailing leg would catch the Newcastle player whether he got the ball or not, it was perfectly open to the assistant referee to decide that it was careless and award a penalty. Not sure whether he was right or wrong but the fact that Ferdinand touched the ball first matters not a jot under the current rules.

we did fine until Jonas was sent off and to be honest the ref was **** for us other than the penalty. I've seen Man United get them over the years on numerous occasions. Why is it always a major issue when one goes against them. Ferguson can **** right off because he wasn't complaining when Ronaldo was diving for pens week in week out a few years ago.

Unfortunately, moving MOTD to Salford (to justify the BBC building a white elephant in Salford...) means they're even less likely to question his paranoid theories every time he doesn't get his way than they were before.

What was Rio Ferdinand doing after the decision?
He appeared to be trying to get the crowd worked up to change the ref's mind.

I had to laugh listening to Fergie crying about the refs decisions that went against him.
Wasn't it a season or two,our Howard was doing it to us without Fergie complaining.
