So true that. I actually said if that was the other way round, Barton's off. What annoyed me was the cynicism and nastiness of the tackle. Barton brushed him whilst getting the ball and then gets hacked down with studs because of it. Disgraceful. I'm amazed it wasn't on MotD!

There are many people out there who are still being manipulated by the media, whether it be by articles like this, or something more serious like politics, lets not forget sport is meant to be no more than a pass time. I'm certainly coming to realise how swaying press articles can be.
I've often watched match of the day and thought, I can't believe they've watched the same game as I have, and arrived at the conclusion they have. Whether we like it or not the press sways public opinion, Barton has gained a reputation through being a bad lad in the past, only this week I heard one plaudit saying after the Birmingham game, Barton has assumed the role of the Pantomime villain.
With regards the Lampard tackle on Barton, who's going to make a fuss, Lampard an assumed good guy against Barton? I've seen Ryan Giggs make a couple of horror tackles lately, he gets away with it because it's been an" error of judgement". No way, he's a wolf in sheeps clothing, who's been in the game long enough now. (Sorry ranting)

It's all to do with Joey's reputation. The media and other fans dont like it that the guy has turned things around this season. lovethisforum is spot on Giggs and other so called big names have gotten away with bad tackles but that's football.

Look at what Paul Scholes has been getting away with for years, every time he does a leg-breaker people shrug it off as a "Scholesy special". He's a little ginger thug, end of.

I can't stand the nasty little ****. Jamie Redknapp is the only who tells it like it is with Scholes, not exactly like it is mind, because he knows he'd be out of job if he went round criticising Man U.

Oh, going a little off topic, I was on the Man U board the other day, and one of their fans was saying Rooney only gets stick because he plays for United. <laugh>

I wouldn't like Rooney no matter who he played for, there is really something not quite right about him, he has a huge chip on his shoulder it seems to stop him enjoying his success, he's just plain nasty.

To be perfectly honest, I think Joey has been the perfect pro since he's been here, and he gives nothing less than 100%. A really good example to the younger players at the club.

With the exception of the Pedersen incident I agree.

I wasn't at the Chelsea game but watched it on Sky and Ray Wilkins tried to blame Barton for that challenge because Joey had the nerve to tackle Lampard first. ****ing media joke, there's no way you should be able to commentate your own teams games when the media have so much influence over disciplinary decisions (how many big 4 players have been retrospectively punished for anything, Wayne Rooney and Nemanja Vidic certainly weren't while Mike Williamson supposedly unleashed the deliberate running headbutt of death!).

Would genuinely like to see a montage of Joey and Cheicks bookings this season, some have been ridiculous. Cheicks last 3 were his first foul in each game, and all around the centre circle, and Joeys include the 'deliberate' handball at the SoS and that ludicrous away one (can't remember who, back end of the season) where he was booked for keeping the ball in play...

The Wolves match was a big test of Barton's character and it's pretty safe to say that the guy has changed although sometimes he tackles harder than necessary .

The Alonso tackle was poor but if we have to go back 3 seasons for a Barton challenge like that, and Lamps, Stevie G, Rooney et al have all done worse this season I don't think a sending off can be held against someone forever. The jail sentence was for a crime committed prior to signing for us wasn't it? Regardless, the point being made was that since giving up the booze he has been no worse than half the league.

I thought the article would have been bigger than that. I was at the game and you could tell that Lampard went to "snap" him. Joey took the ball off him and skinned him down the wing for Lampard to get angry and bring him down. I don't suppose the chants from the away end helped things like! "Joeys rights, Lampards ****e"
