Clap For Conor - Fans To Remember Young Supporter

Supporters are encouraged to join in with a special minute’s applause which will take place during the Tigers’ Barclays Premier League home game against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The applause will be in memory of loyal Hull City supporter Conor Ledger who died at the age of just 18 on Boxing Day, and will begin when the clock ticks over to 18:00 minutes.

Conor, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after he was born, had supported the Tigers all of his life, attending his first game when he was eight years old and he was a regular at both the KC Stadium and on the road where he became a familiar face on Tiger Travel.

Unfortunately, Conor was admitted to hospital in mid-November with a chest infection and although he fought bravely to make it back home for Christmas, he was readmitted on Boxing Day and passed away a short time later.

He is now set to be honoured with a minute’s applause and Conor’s mum, Gill, who will be at the KC Stadium for Saturday’s match, admitted it will be a fitting way to remember her son.

“We are really pleased that the Club has chosen to pay its respects to Conor in this way,” she said.

“He lived for the football club and if he ever missed a game, we knew he must have been feeling really ill. He would be so proud.”

Speaking on behalf of the Club, James Mooney, Marketing & Communications Manager, added: “Conor was a familiar face to many at matches both home and away and having attended his funeral on behalf of the Club, it was obvious how much this football club meant to him.

“We would encourage all supporters attending the game against Newcastle United on Saturday to clap for Conor on 18 minutes. We are proud to have been able to call Conor part of our footballing family and we want his family to know that we are all here to support them through this very difficult time.”

The minute’s applause for Conor will follow on from Newcastle United’s own minute of applause in memory of supporters John Alder and Liam Sweeney, who were killed when flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine last July. Mr Alder and Mr Sweeney were on their way to watch their favourite team play pre-season fixtures in New Zealand when the tragedy happened.

Supporters of both clubs are encouraged to participate in both moments of applause.

I'll make sure me and the lads I'm with observe this mate. It's straight after our 17th minute applause for Liam and John.
