First off, no gripes from me, we have totally surpassed my expectations this year and for that, credit has to go to BR and the team. However, and it pains me to say this......we should of won the league this year.....I'm not sure we'll have another chance like this for a while (who knows?) and we threw it away. So while we're slapping the team on the back for winning the CL spot, I hope that we're asking the right questions about how we avoid this happening again. I hope that we're asking how we can learn to shut a game down, take the 3 points....or even a point (Chelsea) and move on. Fantasy football is great to watch but titles are what counts. City have shown that you can win games with style while having an effective defence and shutting out the opposition. They score as many goals as us but concede half as many.....when I see how poorly we've defended, it staggers me that we've got top 4. We need balance......badly. I, for one, do not want to be everybody's favourite second team but win nothing ala Keegan at newcastle. Not for me, nope...... If we enter next year with the same cavalier attitude, then I fear we'll fall short again.....regardless of who else we sign/keep this year....tactically we have been naive all year in defence......it's made for great football and has achieved our goal of top 4, so I shouldn't be too harsh but some things need to be said. I love our plan A. It's made me fall in love with Liverpool all over again.....It's reignited something in the City and in every Liverpool fan I know....but we need a plan B and maybe a C. I'd of settled for a boring 0-0 versus Chelsea.....needs must. I'd of been happy with playing defensively and on the counter at 2-0 last night......it's just naive to think that we shouldn't.....and that's a mindset, some soul searching that needs to happen at LFC this close season.....especially with Champions League nights returning....we MUST have the ability to scrap out a 0-0 away from home or maybe sneak a cheeky away goal before or after playing at Anfield......or I fear an early exit. So. to the team, to the coaches and to BR (and FSG)....a massive thank you, you've made a lot of people believe again. Now, please, look deep inside and address not just the team but the tactical flexibility to take us to the next step.
should have won the league this year? we still can. it is highly unlikely but it is still down to the last game whatever wed result, but the Ass and Bornin have done well for us on loan, now hopefully we can get ex players do us a favour as well in Downing,Carroll and Cole(he just makes the numbers up really lol), you just never know.
Maybe I'm jumping the gun....who isn't? With a bit of luck, City will think the same thing and take their foot off the gas.....but I doubt it.
look at the twists and turns city and utd had on the last day, didn't the title get won with literally seconds to play? like i said you jut never know.
KKK, I think you got it right. You said nothing in your first post that others have not said or thought. I just think that after the ride we've just had it may be better to wait until after Sunday to go into the analysis of what has happened and why (good, bad and indifferent) and try and set goals for next season. But we, as supporters have to do it. So just think how much harder that is going to be for the club and the players.
All Liverpool need is a top class Striker to play with Suarez, a back up striker, a class attacking midfielder and 2 new CBs to make current CBs squad players.
coward.... where were you for all this season... you are like a dog turd on my shoe. i turn my nose up at you
Surely the problem here is about the managing of expectations! Not one Liverpool fan that I know said at the start of the season that they expected the team to be challenging for the Title at the last knockings! You have to look at the whole picture which is that the team has improved a huge amount this year beyond all expectations. Yes it is cruel to be in the situation where you could have won it but don't forget that you have over achieved this season. This year realistically was always going to be a year of improving and targeting a CL spot and based on this you have more than achieved this target. Not many of the Liverpool players have ever been in this situation before in challenging for a title and I think possibly it has shown in the last few games. Im sure that Rodgers will use this experience in a positive way and will learn from the mistakes and tweak things. Next year will be even better as you will attract more quality and experience. There is no getting away from the fact that Liverpool are back on track and competing for the major prizes again after a few years in the wilderness! This has been a great season and not one to dwell back on for what might have been!
If City win Wednesday then the last day of the season isn't as simple as "just a draw and the titles ours" - it will be extremely nervy for them. 9/10 City just do what's needed and that'll be that but you can never be certain and that's the beauty of the game.
Which cretin was this before? I'm on phone app so can't see who he was in a past incarnation....as MITO said, either a runaway coward or a hideaway coward......
Astro was banned off Utd board for apparently not joining in discussions and doing one liners Im not calling for this guy to be banned as I think Astros ban was unjust but surely he has to offer more than repeated smiley faces
And K Kop K, You're not wrong mate, let's keep thinking that this was year 2 of 3 of a development plan to get us CL competitive that just happened to have us going for the title... The shortcomings are obvious and have been all year and in my opinion can only be resolved/improved for the most part by upgrades rather than changing how existing players play. The bonus? This young squad gained that experience of competing for the title 2 years earlier than planned... We get CL level transfers a year earlier.. Our young players (there's a lot of them) get CL experience a year earlier.... So while our rivals will certainly strengthen we will be in a better place to compete against them than envisaged when BR first took over..... Good stuff!
Now Dr and frank, you are not being fair! This is supposed to be an inclusive forum. The idiot's probably illiterate
