On Saturday two of my grandsons and I had a real treat. It cost me £250, but the three of us had one of the match day experiences. We had a tour of the ground and got to sing Kick (no it) Off, Throw it in etc before the start. We were met by a very pretty and friendly young lady called Chloe. We were shown everything behind the scenes including the dressing rooms, board room, trophy room, exec boxes, in fact the whole ground. And we watched the game from seats in the Jarrold. And we managed to get photographs with several of the players and managed to speak to CH and CC. It was my first visit to Carrow Road since the early 90's and it was a real eye opener to see the dramatic changes that have occurred. I was amazed how many people are now involved in putting on a match. No wonder it costs so much to run football. Listening to one or two conversations, there are plans in store to improve the club even more. Sitting in the Gunn club before the match I realised that football, particularly at this level is more than turn up, watch and go home. Its a family based day out with a game in the middle of it. As far as the game went, I thought we were fairly tidy. However that is not going to win us games. We defended decently against a toothless attack. Even against a poor side you expect to get caught out now and again. The midfield were neat and tidy without great penetration down the middle. I thought Jackson played well and looked sharp but to go against the grain somewhat, I thought Holt was a bit disappointing. Yes he was fouled continuously and Klattenberg was out of order to listen to Hill and Ferdinands whining so much. But Holt just didn't look like he would score. Despite our earlier thoughts on the matter, I think a new striker is a must. We have to be able to change it. We can adapt in the midfield but it didn't look any different up front when Morison and Martin came on. Just a bit too predictable for my liking. Having said that. I'm feeling more confident after that display. I'm sure we will see a few more from midfield this season. We look to have lads who are willing to take a shot at last. And I envy all you buggers who get to go and watch the boys every other week. A day out at Carrow Road certainly is a real treat.
Sounds like a decent day out for you all redruth, but if you noticed plenty of changes sÃnce you were last there in the 90 ´s, what on earth would I think of it all now, as I was last there in the early 70 ´s . I know it can´t possibly be the same, but whenever the atmosphere builds up on match day, and it comes over the airwaves, a familiar picture still appears before my eyes of a packed Barclay End, chanting and singing, all in anticipation, nothing quite like it, there are some things that never change.
Being in the Jarrold the Barclay end seemed apart from the rest somehow. In fact the Snakepit seemed the noisiest even though it couldn't have been. What was nice was seeing the trophy cabinet. A guy older than me gave us a run down and we reminisced about Barry Butlers death and the first League Cup win. And the each match day sponsor has Terry Allcock as their host so its nice their is a connectivity through the last 50 years. My grandsons wanted to meet Hucks but we couldn't find him.
The stadium has changed so much over the years since my first visit in 74 but it still feels the same for me when the whistle blows Hey rbf my daughter just came back from Norway been to Trolltunga hiking looks stunning on her photos!
glad you had a cracking time redruth agree with you about the game overall but i disagree completely about holt though - the reason he never looked like scoring was because he was never presented with a clear cut chance to score! the chances tended to fall to jackson which was because of holt's hold up play. he was a continual nightmare for clint hill (who probably should have seen red on two occasions) and although he faded as the game went on, the signs were good. ferdinand did much better against him 2nd half. he always takes a few games to get into his stride so i really see nothing to worry about with regards holty - certainly not based on that game!
